September 21, 1972 | September 21, 2026 - MANILA, Philippines

Today, we commemorate the 54th anniversary of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.โ€™s signing of Proclamation No. 1081, placing the Philippines under Martial Law. September 21 remains deeply embedded in Philippine history, marking a period of major political and social change.

More than five decades later, it remains remembered and discussed by Filipinos across generations. While we may not have experienced Martial Law ourselves, we can learn from those who did. Their stories remind us of the effects of authoritarian rule and the value of democracy and human rights.

By remembering this part of our history, we hope to encourage more people, especially the youth, to learn about what happened and understand why it should never be forgotten.

So yes, we remember the 21st night of Septemberโ€”but not simply as a line from a famous song. We remember it as part of our history. Because history is not just about remembering the past. It is also about making sure its lessons are not forgotten. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ
