Good news, UPCM researchers!

The University of the Philippines College of Medicine, through the Department of Clinical Epidemiology (DCE) and Medical Informatics Unit (MIU), together with the UP College of Medicine – Research Implementation and Development Office (RIDO), is pleased to announce the extension of the submission deadline for abstracts for Poster Presentations at the 2026 Faculty and Student Research Forum.
📌 NEW SUBMISSION DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 25, 2026 (FRIDAY)
This extension provides our UPCM faculty members and students with additional time to share their research and contribute to our shared culture of inquiry.

The Forum, themed:
“Nurturing a Shared Culture of Inquiry”
will showcase the research works of UPCM faculty and students and foster opportunities to share knowledge, exchange perspectives, and strengthen collaboration within the UPCM community.
Submissions are especially encouraged under the following thematic categories:

🔹 AI for Health
🔹 Evidence for Universal Healthcare
🔹 Other – Research outside the two principal sub-themes
📄 Abstract: Maximum of 250 words, following the prescribed submission guidelines

Base sa rekomendasyon ng Manila Police District, inaasahan ang iba’t ibang pagtitipon, martsa at mga aktibidad sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng lungsod bilang paggunita ng ika-54 Anibersaryo ng Martial Law kaya minabuti nating unahin ang kaligtasan ng ating mga estudyante.

The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila has opened a new laboratory that would allow health professionals to practice surgical and clinical procedures using cadaveric specimens before performing them on actual patients.

In a news release Tuesday, UP Manila said the Surgical Knowledge Intensive Learning Laboratory through Simulation (SKILLS) Laboratory, launched early this month, aims to provide a dedicated facility for cadaver-based simulation training and other medical education activities.

“Unlike the conventional anatomy laboratory, which primarily uses cadavers to teach human anatomy and dissection, SKILLS uses cadaver-based simulation to allow trainees to practice clinical and surgical procedures in a controlled environment before performing them on patients,” it said. | via Philippine News Agency

ADVISORY

Due to heavy rains and flooding in some areas, work and classes at UP Manila are suspended effective 3:15 PM today, September 18, 2026.

For classes, the suspension shall apply whenever practicable, taking into consideration ongoing examinations, laboratory activities, clinical duties, and other academic activities that may require completion or appropriate arrangements. Faculty members are advised to exercise caution and prioritize the safety and well-being of students.

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) shall issue its own advisory on appropriate work arrangements.

📣 CALL FOR PROPOSALS

We are pleased to inform you that the UP College of Medicine - Research Implementation and Development Office (RIDO) is now accepting proposals for the UPMASA SE Student Research Grant. The purpose of this grant is to provide financial support to bona fide UPCM students for their research development and implementation.

Award: UPMASA South East (SE) Student Research Grant
💰 Grant: up to USD 1,500 (in equivalent peso)
📅 Deadline: 31 October 2026

Eligibility:
•All bona fide medical students from LU III to LU VII of the UP College of Medicine (UPCM)
>•Must be enrolled at UPCM throughout the duration of the research grant.
•The student must be the principal investigator or equivalent in the research project.
•The research project should be aligned with the UPCM-PGH Harmonized Research Agenda.
•The study must be concluded before the graduation of the applicant.
