ArchCraft - It is not just a Game!
When students think of games, they often think of entertainment, not education. But what if a game could make one of the most challenging computer science subjects easier to understand?
Introducing ArchCraft, a CSARCH2(Computer Architecture 2) project aimed to teach students how Microprogramming works with the help of 3D Visualization on how signals move within a
CPU, using Minecraft. Developed by Roan Cedric Campo, Enzo Arkin Panugayan, Clive Jarel Ang, and Sensei Roger Luis Uy, the team spent around 6 months creating various components and modeling a fully functional 16-bit Von Neumann Architecture CPU with 1 kilobyte of RAM, using it as a template for students to encode assembly instructions to run algorithms using
assembly code.

The project was incorporated into the syllabus of CSARCH2 as a final project and was tested for its persuasive capabilities and support system to motivate students in learning computer
architecture. The project was a success, showing positive engagement in understanding concepts on a deeper level by playing around with the 3D open computer system, promoting
the students’ autonomy and sense of competency in understanding computer architecture.

The team presented ArchCraft at the Persuasive2026 Conference at Future University Hakodate in Hokkaido, Japan, held on March 11-13, 2026. Their paper is published in Springer Nature as part of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science.
