'ANG USAPIN AY HINDI LAMANG TUNGKOL SA KURIKULUM'

READ: The UST Creative Writing department joins the waves of criticism against the Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) Reframed General Education Curriculum, saying the removal of the humanities in the University would erase "voices and memories" and erode students' critical thinking.

"Ang pagtanggal sa mga sa mga asignaturuang kaugnay ng humanidades ay tahasang pagbalewala sa ating pagkatao. Paano natin uunawain ang ating sarili kung aalisin ang mga larangang nagtuturo sa atin na basahin ang ating kasaysayan, kultura, at identidad?" the department says in a statement on Thursday, May 7.

It emphasizes the crucial role of the humanities in shaping students' minds, judgment and conviction amid the age of disinformation and artificial intelligence.

"Sa huli, ang usapin ay hindi lamang tungkol sa kurikulum. Ito ay usapin kung anong uri ng lipunan ang nais nating buuin."

CHED's proposed curriculum seeks to reduce the minimum units for GE courses from 36 to 18. It removes the subjects Math in the Modern World, Understanding the Self, Art Appreciation and Ethics from the mandatory core courses.
