Pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 131, the following work arrangement and learning delivery modes shall be observed on August 20, 2026:

Classes – Classes shall shift to appropriate alternative learning modes. Faculty members are advised to exercise caution and prioritize the safety and well-being of students. Reasonable flexibility and leniency shall likewise be extended to students who may experience difficulties in attending classes, participating in learning activities, or complying with academic requirements due to heavy rains, flooding, or other related circumstances in their respective areas.

Work – Work in UP Manila shall shift to a work-from-home arrangement. Heads of offices are enjoined to exercise discretion in the assignment of tasks, with due consideration for employees who may be adversely affected by the heavy rains and flooding.

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) shall issue its own advisory on appropriate work arrangements.

The UP Manila University Library (UL), led by University Librarian Ma’am Marybel Caasi, MAEd LS, together with Ma’am Dhomilyn Hernandez, MLIS, Chair of the Library Extension and Research Network (LEaRN), and SHS Librarian Rea Joy Garcia, MLIS, conducted a second visit to the UP Manila School of Health Sciences (SHS) –Tarlac Campus Library on August 7, 2026.

The follow-up visit continued the collaborative efforts to assess the campus library’s resources and services, identify developmental needs, and explore opportunities for strengthened support and collaboration. The team also met with Prof. Joel A. Valencia, RM, RN, RGC, LPT, MAN, Director of UP Tarlac, together with the faculty and administrative personnel of the UP Manila School of Health Sciences–Tarlac Campus, for discussions on the campus library’s needs, development, and possible areas for continued support and coordination.

The visit highlighted the UL and LEaRN’s continuing commitment to strengthening library services, fostering collaboration, and supporting the development of responsive and sustainable libraries across the SHS campuses.

EVENT RECAP │ Abante Aklatan: Staff Orientation and Training Workshop on the UPM Institutional Repository System & Pimedicus Databases

Yesterday, August 11, 2026, the UP Manila University Library successfully hosted "Abante Aklatan" at the Dr. Florentino B. Herrera, Jr. Medical Library! Librarians and staff gathered for an intensive, hands-on workshop focused on elevating the university’s digital preservation and research accessibility.

Here are the key highlights from the event:

Led by Mr. Alfred E. Dalmacio, Chair of the UPM-UL IR Project, the session featured hands-on training on the Institutional Repository System (IRS), covering metadata standardization, file preparation, submission workflows, and administrative review protocols. It also unveiled the official name and logo of the UPM IRS, underscoring its role as UP Manila’s central hub for collecting, preserving, and sharing academic research outputs.

In the afternoon, Ms. Carla G. Demabildo (Head Librarian, Dr. Florentino B. Herrera, Jr. Medical Library) and Mr. Bernard P. Lapuz (Admin Assistant VI, Main Library) guided staff through an interactive workshop on the Pimedicus database. The session traced the platform's history, provided a tour of its user interface, and delivered hands-on training on data entry and the exploration of its administrative features.

A big thank you to our University Librarian, Ms. Marybel P. Caasi, for the warm opening remarks, Ms. Emelorna E. Delgado (Head, UL Information and Technology Division) for closing the program, our master of ceremonies, Ms. Dennise Allysa T. Peralta (College Librarian, Dr. Florentino B. Herrera, Jr. Medical Library), and all participating library personnel for making this event a success!
