The student organizations within the School of Teacher Education (SOTE) come together to commemorate the declaration of Martial Law and to pay tribute to those many Filipinos who were victimized during a period in which civil liberties were curtailed, human rights were violated, there was censorship, arbitrary arrests, people went missing, and the democratic institutions were weakened.

As future educators, we reject any attempt to mislead or change the lessons of history. We believe that the commemoration of Martial Law is not a matter of division but rather an effort made in pursuit of truth and justice. The plight of the victims and survivors serves as a warning of the consequences of unrestrained power and silence in the face of oppression.

Thus, in view of the threats to democracy, human rights, press freedom, and accountability, we have an obligation to remain vigilant everywhere and whenever there is a breakdown of the government institutions which fail to act transparently as dissent is being punished by repression and public officials put their interests above the people.

The SOTE organizations from English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Home Economics, Physical Education, Culture and Arts Education, Elementary Education, Special Needs Education, and Early Childhood Education condemn all forms of authoritarianism, historical revisionism, and attacks against democratic freedoms. We affirm that education must serve as a force for truth, critical thinking, and social responsibility. As future educators, we have a duty to empower learners to engage with history critically and to defend the principles of justice, freedom, and human dignity.

We stand in solidarity with all those who continue to seek truth, accountability, and remembrance.

Never Again to Martial Law. Never Again to Dictatorship. Never Again to Historical Revisionism.

For three years, Dwife has demonstrated a lot of determination and dedication towards student leadership at NEO. From being a member of the Technical Working Committee (TWC) to being our President, he has been serving with passion, dedication, and love for the organization.

Apart from that, Dwife is also an individual with a humorous personality, warm, and positive energy. His personality helps us remember that leadership requires much more than taking up responsibilities and performing duties.

Today, not only do we wish him a happy birthday, but we also celebrate three years of dedication and service to NEO. Thank you, Dwife, we hope this year will give you many opportunities to laugh, celebrate, and be proud of how far you've come. ✨

As the English organization, we are aware of the fact that language, literature, and communication are powerful means to shape the public consciousness and uphold the historical truth. Our education has made us understand that Martial Law stands for more than just its place in the history of the Philippines; it is a clear example of the negative consequences of robbing people of their freedom, withholding information, and passing laws to restrict freedom of speech. This event in our country allows us to value democratic principles as well as the concept of responsible citizenship.

Aside from that, campus journalism, which happens to be an integral part of our program, enabled us to learn more about Martial Law. That much is clear, because discussions, research, and writing have opened the door to the lives of journalists, writers, and ordinary Filipinos who have been suffering at the hands of censorship, threats, and limitation of freedom of speech.

As future educators, writers, and communicators, we have a responsibility to uphold truth, encourage critical thinking, and promote historical awareness. Remembering the lessons of Martial Law is not about dwelling on the past but about learning from it so that future generations can protect the freedoms and rights that many struggled to defend. Through education and informed discourse, we contribute to preserving a society that values truth, justice, and freedom of expression.
