๐จ URGENT CYBERSECURITY ADVISORY ๐จ
BEWARE OF GOOGLE CHAT IMPERSONATION SCAMS
The Information Management Service (IMS) has received multiple reports of malicious actors impersonating UP personnel by creating Gmail accounts using employee names (e.g., [email protected]). These fake accounts send Google Chat messages to official .edu.ph email users requesting money, gift cards, or other financial assistance.
โ ๏ธ Do not trust the display name alone. Always check the sender's actual email address.
โ Do NOT:
- Send money or gift cards.
- Share confidential or personal information.
- Act on urgent financial requests received through Google Chat.
โ
Always:
- Verify the sender through their official .edu.ph email, office phone, or another trusted communication channel.
- Report suspicious messages to the UP Manila Cybersecurity Incident Response Team ([email protected]). Include the email address of the sender as well as any relevant information for reporting to authorities.
- Block and delete the fraudulent account after reporting.
Stay vigilant. When in doubt, verify first before responding.
