MEET THE PANELS | Research Colloquium 2026

Behind every research defense is a panel that asks the hard questions.

This year, as our graduating Political Science students confront the gap between what political mandates promise and what citizens actually experience, they'll be examined by a panel of scholars whose own work lives in that very tension.

Meet the panelists evaluating this year's studies:

Ms. Elaiza C. Polo
Instructor, CMU Political Science Program
MA in Political Science, MSUโ€“Iligan Institute of Technology (ongoing)

Ms. Analou C. Amor
Instructor, CMU Political Science Program
MA in Political Science, University of San Carlos (ongoing)

Prof. May Alinie P. Butalid
Associate Professor, CMU Political Science Program
Doctor of Public Administration, Ateneo de Cagayanโ€“Xavier University (ongoing)

Their task: to press, probe, and push our researchers toward sharper, more honest answers about how Philippine politics actually works.

Join us on our annual colloquium with the theme: "Between Mandate and Reality: Examining the Implementation Gap in Philippine Politics"

Political institutions in the Philippines are abundant in formal mandates; laws, rulings, and policy frameworks that promise representation, decentralization, public safety, peace, and development. Yet the distance between what these mandates declare and what citizens actually experience remains among the most pressing concerns in Philippine political science. This colloquium examines that distance.

Graduating students of the Political Science Program will present completed undergraduate research investigating how national-level policies and political concepts translate into the realities of everyday governance and citizenship. The studies reflect a shared commitment to situated, empirically grounded inquiry. Research that takes seriously the communities and contexts often underrepresented in national political discourse.

Come join us at our Research Colloquium 2026, with the theme: "Between Mandate and Reality: Examining the Implementation Gap in Philippine Politics"

May 25, 2026 | 1:00 - 5:00 PM
CAS Auditorium

Faculty, students, researchers, and members of the academic community are warmly invited to attend, engage, and participate in the discussions.

We are pleased to announce to the Central Mindanao University Political Science Community, our alumni, students, faculty members, university constituents, stakeholders, partner institutions, and friends, that the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science Program, formerly under the Department of Social Sciences, will be officially under the newly established ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž of the new ๐‚๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‡๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐’๐จ๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ฌ, effective August 1, 2026.

This development is pursuant to ๐Œ๐ž๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐๐จ. ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ“-๐Ÿ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ“, ๐’๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”, signed by the University President of Central Mindanao University, in accordance with ๐๐Ž๐‘ ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ’, ๐’๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“.

This transition marks a significant milestone in the continuing growth and development of Political Science education in Central Mindanao University and in Bukidnon. More than a structural change, this represents a renewed identity, a stronger academic direction, and a broader vision for the discipline and the community we serve.

As we move forward as a Department, we envision strengthened academic excellence, expanded opportunities for students, meaningful collaboration among faculty members, stronger partnerships with stakeholders and partner institutions, and deeper engagement with communities both in the Philippines and internationally.

This new chapter opens greater possibilities for innovation, research, extension, public service, leadership formation, and international linkages that will further shape the future of CMU Political Science.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey, and we look forward to building this new era together.

Padayon, CMU Political Science!
