💜💜💜

A teacher’s work has a strange afterlife. It continues in people they will never know and in every life entrusted to the law.

Time after time, we ponder on the annotations in the margins and the arguments that feel halfway through. Years from now, we may remember fewer of those details.

What resonates are the minds that taught us to look twice before reaching a conclusion. The professors who asked us to defend an answer we had only just begun to understand inspire the principle that the law demands both precision of thought and seriousness of heart.

Our legal mentors teach us something harder to put into a syllabus as we learn that the law will one day place other people’s lives, rights, and hopes within the reach of our judgment.

And when that day comes, may every substantial part of their teaching still speak through us.

To our dear professors...We are grateful to be among the places your teaching will live. Happy Teachers' Day!
