Southern Masbate Roosevelt College, Inc. (SMRC) conducted an earthquake drill today, September 10, as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure the safety of the entire school community.
Held in coordination with the Bureau of Fire ProtectionโPlacer (BFP-Placer) and the Philippine National PoliceโPlacer (PNP-Placer), the activity brought students, faculty, staff, and emergency responders together in a coordinated exercise designed to reinforce the proper response to an earthquake.
Students actively participated in the drill by practicing the โDrop, Cover, and Holdโ procedure before proceeding to designated evacuation areas in an orderly manner. The exercise provided a practical opportunity for learners to understand that preparedness is not simply about knowing safety protocolsโit is about developing the presence of mind and discipline to apply them when an actual emergency occurs.
The participation of BFP-Placer and PNP-Placer further emphasized the importance of coordination between schools and local emergency and law enforcement agencies. Their involvement helped strengthen the SMRC communityโs awareness of emergency procedures, response protocols, and the shared responsibility of keeping everyone safe during disasters.
Through this collective effort, the drill also strengthened SMRCโs core value of ๐ฝ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ฌ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, as students and personnel demonstrated their commitment to taking safety protocols seriously and acting responsibly during emergencies.
For SMRC, the earthquake drill goes beyond compliance with a safety requirement. It is an investment in the preparedness, resilience, and safety of every student and every member of the school community.
Earthquakes can happen without warning. When they do, preparedness can mean the difference between panic and an organized responseโand, ultimately, between danger and safety.
SMRC remains committed to building a community that is informed, prepared, resilient, and ready to respond when it matters most.
