The travel schedule had been planned well in advance. Before Typhoon Uwan was forecasted to make landfall in Sorsogon and Masbate, the two block sections from Masbate had already been scheduled to travel to Sorsogon, and two block sections from Sorsogon had been scheduled to travel to Masbate on Friday, November 7, 2025. This was two (2) days before the expected landfall on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The schedule was arranged to ensure that the students could travel safely ahead of any weather disturbances.
The students from Masbate City safely arrived in Pilar, Sorsogon together with a school staff member who accompanied them during their travel. However, the students scheduled for departure at 8:00 PM from Pilar to Masbate were unable to proceed due to the declaration of Signal No. 1 in the City of Sorsogon, which led the shipping lines to announce the suspension of all trips. This unexpected cancellation caused the students to be stranded during their travel. To ensure everyone’s safety, the school and the organization decided to bring the students back to their dormitories in Sorsogon immediately.
At their previous dormitories, the students were provided with a safe and comfortable place to stay, including free internet connection, free electricity, free water, free daily meals, and their other necessities. Despite the sudden change in plans, it is with great appreciation to the Philippine Nursing Students’ Association – Southern Bicol Colleges Chapter (PNSA-SBC), under the guidance of the PNSA Adviser, Ma’am Ailene O. Arcenas, who immediately took the initiative to provide these free daily meals for the stranded students using the organization’s own fund and resources.
The situation was unforeseen, yet every effort was made to ensure that no student felt neglected or unsafe. Through these events, the PNSA-SBC has demonstrated its dedication to the welfare and unity of nursing students. The organization continues to uphold its purpose of service, compassion, and integrity, guided by the support of the school.
On behalf of the entire organization, we sincerely thank everyone for their patience, understanding, and cooperation. Together, we continue to move forward with care, integrity, and unity, trusting in the Almighty’s guidance and grace to protect and strengthen us as we serve with compassion and understanding.
