The Faculty of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences is officially opening the Program Specific Assessment Application for aspiring nursing students for the upcoming Academic Year 2026-2027.

DOrSU Lands in Five WURI 2026 Categories, Places 15th Globally in Interdisciplinary Research

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) earned international recognition after securing placements in five categories of the 2026 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), highlighted by its 15th global ranking in interdisciplinary research โ€” one of the highest placements achieved by a Philippine state university in this yearโ€™s rankings.

The university placed 15th worldwide in C2 โ€“ Interdisciplinary, Convergent, and Integrated Research through its study, โ€œMacro-and Micro-Plastic Pollution (M2P2) in Marine Ecosystem and Fisheries in South-Eastern Mindanao.โ€ The project focuses on environmental threats affecting coastal communities and marine biodiversity in the region.

Apart from its Top 15 placement, DOrSU also gained recognition in four other WURI categories through programs and initiatives centered on leadership, sustainability, technology-driven education, and community impact.

In B1 โ€“ Visionary Leadership, DOrSU earned recognition through โ€œHiraya ng Silangang Davao,โ€ a university-wide capacity-building program aimed at establishing a Center for Futures Thinking and Regenerative Development.

The university was also cited in B6 โ€“ Infrastructure and Technologies for its โ€œICT Solution for Transformative Education โ€“ A Sustainable Smart Campus Initiative,โ€ which highlights DOrSUโ€™s efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and smart campus development.

Meanwhile, in B8 โ€“ University Brand and Reputation, the university gained recognition for โ€œDavao Oriental State University (DOrSU) โ€“ Building a Regenerative Futures University through Futures Thinking and Regenerative Development.โ€

In C5 โ€“ Social Impact through Knowledge Transfer, DOrSU was recognized for its initiative titled โ€œStrengthening Community-Based Coastal Resource Management (CBCRM) through Technology and Skills Transfer for the Conservation and Sustainability of Mayo Bay and Adjacent Coastal Ecosystems.โ€

The WURI rankings assess universities based on innovation, practical impact, and contribution to society rather than traditional academic indicators alone. Institutions from around the world participate in the rankings to highlight programs and research initiatives addressing contemporary global challenges.

DOrSUโ€™s performance reflects the growing presence of Philippine regional universities in international innovation rankings, particularly in areas involving sustainability, environmental research, and community engagement.

The latest WURI results also underscore the expanding role of regional state universities in the countryโ€™s research and development landscape as higher education institutions continue strengthening their global competitiveness through innovation-driven and socially responsive programs.

The Office of the President of Davao Oriental State University has issued Memorandum Order No. 43, s. 2026, formally announcing the cancellation of Siglakas 2026 and the suspension of all related activities and transactions.

This decision follows the resolution of the University Student Council (USC) Legislative Senate, taking into consideration the prevailing economic and energy-related challenges.

The memorandum outlines key measures, including the immediate termination of all Siglakas-related preparations, implementation of financial safeguards, protection of students from additional financial burdens, and the realignment of resources toward sustainable and academically supportive initiatives.

This directive reinforces the Universityโ€™s commitment to responsible governance, student welfare, and institutional resilience during times of economic uncertainty.

In light of these circumstances, we acknowledge the impact of this decision on the student body and appreciate your continued understanding as we navigate these challenges together. We remain hopeful for better conditions ahead and look forward to celebrating with everyone in the next Siglakas.

On March 26, 2026, the Second Year Nursing students proudly led our Womenโ€™s Month program, honoring the Babaylan spirit of wisdom, healing, and empowerment. Through advocacy and health education, we demonstrated how nurses carry forward this legacy, serving with compassion, knowledge, and dedication.

This event was not only a celebration of Filipina leadership inspired by the Babaylan, but also a testament to our commitment as future nurses to health advocacy, education, and community empowerment. We strive to continue this legacy in our nursing practice, leading with compassion, knowledge, and service.

The success of this event reflects the unity of student nurses, clinical instructors, and the community. May the spirit of Babaylan leadership continue to inspire us in our journey as nurses, dedicated to caring, educating, and empowering others.
