Sustaining Standards: ESSU-M Undergoes ISO Surveillance Visit

Prioritizing its commitment to international standards, Eastern Samar State University-Maydolong Campus underwent an intensive ISO 9001:2015 surveillance visit, today, April 17, 2026.

The audit for ESSU-Maydolong was led by the ISO external auditor, Ms. Ma. Janica Verlaine Despuig. She conducted a comprehensive review of the campusโ€™s different processes.

The evaluation began with a session involving the top management, represented by the campus administrator, Dr. Jerald P. Torillo. Then it was followed by an onsite evaluation on the DRRM which was led by Randy Padrique. The last onsite evaluation for the morning session was the Scholarship Office headed by Venus M. Seduco.

After the lunch break, the audit continued at the QAAC Office for the evaluation of the Student Organization and Activities Office headed by Dr. Michelle R. Azura and the Admission and Registration Office headed by Monina A. Balios. Then, it was followed by another onsite evaluation for the library headed by Laila M. Mumar and the BTLEd program headed by Roxan S. Afable.

After the intensive audit, Ms. Despuig conducted a wrap-up of the evaluation. Dr. Torillo once again reaffirmed his commitment to campusโ€™s adherence to the international standardization. The event was formally closed by Prof. Apolinario John Bocarโ€™s message highlighting the importance of the surveillance audit and thanking the effort of everyone.

Eastern Samar State University-Maydolong Campus officially commenced its ISO 9001:2015 Surveillance Visit today, April 17, 2026, to ensure its continued adherence to the international standards for quality management.

The campus officials and process owners gathered for the opening conference. The external audit is being conducted by the auditor, Ms. Ma. Janica Verlaine Despuig, who is tasked with evaluating the campusโ€™s operational efficiency, instruction, student services, and administrative process. She presented the flow of the evaluation throughout the day.

Eastern Samar State University-Maydolong Campus formally participated in the virtual opening program for ISO 9001:2015 External Audit today, April 16, 2026.

Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, campus administrator, together with the directors, deans, unit heads, faculty and staff, gathered via Zoom conference for the virtual site opening of the surveillance visit. The audit serves as verification for the universityโ€™s compliance with the international quality management standards. This reaffirms its dedication to the quality standards and ensures its contribution to the universityโ€™s standing for providing quality instruction, research, and extension.

Exemplifying the pursuit of excellence as a perpetually inflating bubble, Eastern Samar State University conquers new frontiers in the 2026 Edition of the Higher Education (HE) Ranking, climbing much further than the year prior, in the most recent classification published earlier this month.

Guided by the intuitive leadership of ESSU President, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr. through the meticulous ex*****on of the Vice President for External Affairs and Quality Assurance, Dr. Jocelyn S. Castro, the university made an exponential jump in the HE Ranking from the previous year. Even with more institutions ranked in this year, ESSU still climbed ninety-seven (97) places higher in the said ranking.

Eastern Samar State University earned 6,244 points to secure the two hundred twenty-fifth (225th) worldwide ranking out of five hundred seven (507) institutions ranked for 2026, a steep climb from the three hundred twenty-second (322nd) ranking last year (4926 points) out of four hundred twenty-two (422) institutions ranked, truly a feat none the easiest.

The HE Ranking is built on a simple conviction that universities should be understood as living institutions rather than prestige labels. A serious ranking that looks at how universities see themselves more clearly, understands how different parts of institutional life interact, and identifies where change is both necessary and possible, these convictions give Higher Education Ranking its identity.

Huge congratulations to the ESSU studentry, the workforce and leadership who continue to show that when everyone contributes willfully towards the same goal, they make things happen. Cheers everyone!

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto has issued Memorandum Circular No. 116, implementing a half-day work-from-home arrangement from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon for all government offices on April 1, in observance of Holy Wednesday.

Work in government offices will be suspended starting at 12:00 noon onwards to allow employees ample time to prepare for the solemn observance of Holy Week.

The Eastern Samar State University-Maydolong campus family spent the day in reflection and fellowship as the faculty and staff gathered for the annual recollection activity at the Anemes Farm, Brgy. Maytigbao, Maydolong.

Fr. James Abella, the recollection master, said that โ€œsometimes our sufferings bring us closer to Jesus.โ€ He reminded us to make our crosses sanctify our lives.

This activity aimed to step back from the daily work and remind us that the heart of our work is the calling to serve with love and grace.

Eastern Samar State University-Maydolong campusโ€™ Student Supreme Council officially turned over a brand new set of tablets to the campus library today, March 23, 2026.

The SSC officers, together with Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, campus administrator, officially handed the newly purchased tablets to Ms. Laila M. Mumar, the campus librarian, as part of their SSC project. This project was funded through the accumulated student fines.

The purpose of this project is to improve access to the e-library resources. This will provide the students easier access to the e-books, online research databases, and other digital learning tools in the campus.
