BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Trinitas School humbly began in 1992. Canlas, whom we fondly call Teacher Trina, founded this institution and served as its first directress. Inspired by a personal dream and a vision of a total educational environment, and backed by more than 25 years of teaching and administrative experience locally and abroad, Teacher Trina renovated a modest bungalow in Las Villas de St
o. Niño Phase II, Meycauayan City, Bulacan, to house early childhood development concerns. She named it The Miraculous Medal Learning Center (in honor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal) or MMLC. It was quietly inaugurated in May 1992 but was warmly received by its immediate community. The school year 1992-1993 saw the opening of the MMLC, with its youngest pioneers – a handful of Nursery and Kindergarten children. Encouraged by the success of that first school year, MMLC marked the next school year 1993-1994 with a total of twenty children: 11 eager young faces at the MMLC and nine (9) pupils from a combined class of Grades 1 and 2. De Guzman, also known as Teacher Bing, who served as Principal. The small school expanded on a newly acquired property adjacent to the original site. The preschool retained its MMLC name but assumed its expanded educational aspirations under the umbrella name of Trinitas School. Trinitas School registered itself that year as a non-stock educational foundation committed to holistic, humane, and quality childhood education. In November 1993, a 4-storey school building was completed to house the grade school. Its many classrooms and offices were soon furnished; new facilities were added; and more learning materials and resources were made available. Enjoying a growing reputation for delivering quality instruction, student enrolment increased over the years from 20 to more than a thousand. The school also received government recognition from the Department of Education for both the elementary grades and high school. From earlier modest facilities, it expanded to include a second and much bigger campus on sprawling grounds at Pantoc-Camalig with a 5-storey building for basic education, a canteen, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, an open court, theater, and facilities for science and technology education. In the year 2000, Trinitas School resolved to expand its educational concerns to tertiary education. Upon approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Education, the institution assumed the umbrella name of Trinitas College. The Board of Trustees, led by Engr. Canlas, appointed Teacher Trina as President and Teacher Bing as Vice-President for Academic Affairs. Under Dean Dolores Catalla, the College began to offer bachelor’s degree courses in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Business Administration, Psychology, and Information Technology. In the same year, Mr. Jaime Montero joined Administration as Principal of the high school and grade school, which were made continuous and referred to as Basic Education. Upon Mr. Montero’s retirement the following year, Teacher Arlene Ramos, who had earlier served as Department Chairperson, assumed the post. Lilia Fontanilla became Directress in school year 2003-04 and was succeeded by Mrs. Remedios Cruz the following year. Dainty Samson has served as Principal since 2005. Obtaining government recognition for its initial college courses in 2003, Trinitas College this time prepared to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing course. Trinitas College obtained government recognition from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the Nursing course in 2006. To invite more high school graduates to continue studies after high school, Trinitas College now offers short courses such as the Caregiver and Call Center Training Programs under the regulation of the Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA). Dean Lydia Viet led the faculty and staff of the Department of Nursing until 2010. Cristina Elisse Canlas assumed Deanship in 2010. Dolores Catalla now serves as Academic Adviser, Acting Dean, and Principal of the high school. Trinitas College has also embarked on Alternative Learning Systems (ALS) for youth and adults who left formal schooling before they could graduate. This social service contribution is a major extension program of the school. School year 2011-12 opened with the inauguration of the newly renovated Main Campus at the National Road, a much-appreciated gesture of goodwill from a major benefactor, Chairman Efren Canlas himself. The Annex Campus (also called the Big School) on the other hand, is also being improved section by section under the direction of the Chairman. The renovation of both campuses represent this school’s continuing commitment to excellence. As we move into the future, we look forward to adding more courses, facilities, and better services. May our school shelter and train many individuals who will exemplify the Trinitarian spirit and who will devote themselves to the pursuit of excellence, the improvement of the quality of life, the experience of true citizenship in a democracy, and the full and joyful realization of Christian ideals and values.
