Ang diwa ng EDSA ay patuloy na nabubuhay sa taumbayan at sangkaestudyantehan! Tayo ang EDSA!

Ngayong Pebrero 25, 2026, nakikiisa ang UPV CFOS SC, kasama ang UP Fisheries Guild, UP Ichthyophilic Society, at Ang Mangingisda sa paggunita sa ika-40 na anibersaryo ng EDSA People Power Revolution โ€“ isang makasaysayang pangyayari na nagpakita ng lakas at pagkakaisa ng mga Pilipino.

Kahit kilala bilang mapayapang rebolusyon ang EDSA, dapat din nating alalahanin na hindi lang ito simpleng isinilang mula sa katahimikan. Ito ay isinilang mula sa mahabang panahon ng malawakang paglabag sa karapatang pantao, media censorship, mga illegal at hindi makatarungang pag-aresto at pagpatay, at mga sapilitang pagkawala ng mga aktibista sa ilalim ng diktaduryang Marcos Sr. Kaya bilang tugon, milyon-milyong Pilipino ang nagtipon sa kahabaan ng Epifano de los Santos Avenue mula Pebrero 22 hanggang 25 noong 1986. Ang apat na araw na ito ay nagbunga sa pagpapatalsik sa diktador na Marcos Sr.

Apatnapung taon ang nakalipas, ang EDSA People Power Revolution ay hindi lamang dapat manatiling isang pangyayari sa ating kasaysayan. Ito ay dapat patuloy nating bitbitin bilang paalala ng kolektibong lakas at pagkilos ng mga mamamayan. Isa rin itong paalala na ang pagbagsak ng isang diktador ay hindi awtomatikong nagkakahulugan na mabubuwag ang bulok na sistema. Mula sa administrayon ng kanyang ama, makikita pa rin sa kasalukuyang administrasyon ni Marcos Jr. kung paano lantarang nagnanakaw mula sa kaban ng bayan โ€“ patuloy na nagpapayaman ang mga nasa kapangyarihan habang nagtitiis ang mamamayan sa basehang serbisyong pantao,ang talamak na pananakot sa mga aktibista, at sapilitang pagkawala sa mga kumukuwestiyon sa administrasyon.

Makalipas ang dalawang rebolusyon sa EDSA, wala pa ring may pinagbago sa sistema โ€“ sistemang BULOK, KURAP, at PAHIRAP SA TAUMBAYAN! Bagaman alam natin na hanggaโ€™t andiyan ang tatlong salot sa lipunan: ang Imperyalismo, Pyudalismo, at Burukrata Kapitalismo, ay walang magbabago sa sistema na pumapabor sa paulit-ulit na lamang na mga mukha sa kapangyarihan. Patuloy pa rin tayong lulunurin sa mga ghost projects, mababagabag ng implasyon, mananakawan ng katutubong lupa, kukulangin sa oportunidad, at harap-harapang lolokohin ng mga politikal aktors na umuupo sa kapangyarihan upang panatilihin ang sistema.

Sa panahong patuloy pa rin ang pagharap ng ating bansa sa mga hamon ng kahirapan at kawalan ng pananagutan, kailangan talaga natin isabuhay ang diwa ng EDSA; ipakita sa buong bansa na buhay ang apoy ng pakikibaka, na may kapangyarihan ang taumbayan. Sama โ€“ sama nating ipanawagan na ANG LAHAT NG SANGKOT, AY DAPAT MANAGOT MULA SA TUKTOK HANGGANG SA BABA!

Hanggaโ€™t may pang-aapi, pang-aabuso, at pagyurak sa karapatang pantao, mananatiling buhay ang apoy at diwa ng EDSA.
