𝗕𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗚𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: 𝗙𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘

On this day, October 12, as we celebrate National Farmers' Day, SoABE recognizes the invaluable contributions of Filipino farmers whose labor sustains agricultural production, strengthens food security, and supports the nation's economy.

From cultivating the land to bringing food to our tables, farmers remain at the forefront of sustaining the nation. Yet despite their indispensable role, many continue to face economic insecurity and systemic challenges that threaten their livelihoods and the future of Philippine agriculture.

Persistent poverty, rising production costs, unstable farmgate prices, limited access to agricultural resources and markets, and the worsening impacts of climate change continue to burden farming communities. These realities expose a troubling contradiction: 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀.

Recognizing farmers' contributions, therefore, must extend beyond annual celebrations and expressions of gratitude. It demands accountability from institutions entrusted with agricultural development, alongside policies that meaningfully address the conditions confronting farming communities. Ensuring national food security must not come at the expense of the welfare and economic security of those responsible for it.

As we commemorate this day, SoABE calls for meaningful agricultural reforms that prioritize fair farmgate prices, accessible financial and technical support, strengthened rural infrastructure, climate-resilient agricultural systems, and equitable market opportunities.

These demands require sustained government accountability and collective action among farmers, agricultural institutions, students, and communities toward a more inclusive and equitable agricultural sector.

𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱.

Students from the Society of Agribusiness Economists were glad to be part of 𝗔𝗩𝗖𝗗𝗘𝟭: 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺, the first episode of 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶-𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀.

The forum was a meaningful opportunity to listen, learn, share perspectives, and connect with fellow stakeholders toward more sustainable communities in the UP Mindanao Land Reservation. 💚💙

𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀

Sa mundo ng nararapat at dapat, walang Pilipino ang napipilitang pumunta sa ibang bansa at isakripisyo ang pang-araw-araw na buhay para lamang mabuhay. Sa mundo ng dapat, mayroong industriya na tunay na nakaangkla sa pangangailangan ng masa at sa kapakanan ng sambayanang Pilipino. Dapat nating bigyang-halaga ang masa, sapagkat sila ang nararapat na maging pundasyon at batayan ng mga polisiya at programang ginagawa sa bansa. Kung kaya’t isinusulong namin ang isang nationalist, scientific, at mass-oriented na oryentasyon ng lokal na industriya para sa mga migranteng Pilipino.

Bilang grupong nag-aaral at nagsusuri sa danas ng mga migranteng Pilipino, alam namin na sa kabila ng magkakaibang kuwento at karanasan, iisa ang kanilang panawagan: magkaroon ng disenteng trabaho, sapat na sahod, at maayos na pamumuhay sa sariling bayan, at wakasan ang bulok na sistemang nagtutulak sa kanila na lumabas ng bansa. Isang sistemang nakaangkla sa interes ng iilan, partikular ng mga pasista at mapagsamantalang burukrata-kapitalista, na patuloy na nakikinabang sa lakas-paggawa ng mga Pilipino habang ipinagkakait sa kanila ang disenteng kabuhayan sa sariling bayan. Kapag nagkaisa ang bawat Pilipino upang labanan at bakahin ang sistemang nagtutulak at nagpapalayas sa ating mga kababayan palabas ng bansa, kailangan nating isulong ang isang tunay na alternatibo. Isang nationalist, scientific, at mass-oriented na oryentasyon ng industriya na layong pagsilbihan ang bawat Pilipino at hindi lamang ang interes ng iilan. Isang industriyang nakatuon sa paglikha ng disenteng trabaho, makatarungang sahod, at serbisyong tunay na tumutugon sa pangangailangan ng masa.

Kaya’t malinaw ang aming panawagan: “𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝗮 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘀, 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝘀𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀!” “𝗦𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗱 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗮𝘀, 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘆𝗼 𝗜𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗮!"
