2023 Week 21 Filipino Value Focus: INTERDEPENDENCE

https://www.crfv-cpu.org/resources/weeklyvaluefocus

“The principle of interdependence is the key to the existence of nature’s entire system. The best example we have of this are the cells in the human body. They connect with one another through mutual giving for the benefit of the entire body. Every cell receives what it needs to exist, and applies the rest of its strength toward the general body.” Every organization exists like a human body. All parts work as one, move as one, speak as one and think as one. Every member is dependent on each other.

The principle of interdependence necessarily includes respect with what each member in an organization can do. Apart from this, the leader would always disregard what a follower can do - leading to the follower’s feeling of helplessness or hopelessness. On the other hand, the follower who does not respect his leader’s capacity to lead would always question the latter’s orders. In short, lack of respect would make interdependence difficult to attain.

Another indispensable element in the principle of interdependence is trust. Lack or the absence of it makes interdependence impossible. If an organization is to be represented as one body, each member should trust each other. No matter how varied each one’s roles are, one must act in a perspective where it would promote the whole organization, not only the individual. Every member should always bear in mind that his or her actions have far-reaching consequences.

For an individual, becoming part of an organization means being prepared to be a team player and being prepared to adjust with all the members of the team. Regardless of the differences in perception and preferences, each must learn to work with each other. Difficult as it may be, differences should be reconciled, bearing in mind what is best for the organization. At the end of the day, it all boils down to the principle that every member is not working as a separate individual but a part of a bigger entity. As the Word says, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

Before we move today, consider these: (a) what part are we playing in our organization; (b) what body do we belong to; and (c) are we exhibiting interdependence in fulfilling our duties and responsibilities?

ACTION PLAN

Checklist: Tick the box that represents the value system of your organization. If you think you need to achieve one value system which you do not possess at the moment, think of ways on how you can realign.
Before we do something, we consider the role that each department plays in our organization.
In all activities we conduct, all departments are involved from the planning phase to the implementation and evaluation.
In our organization, we make sure that all contributions made by our members are respected.
We honor every sacrifice laid down by every member, and make sure that no one is violated or looked down upon.
We move as a one-man-team in fulfilling our daily tasks and duties.

DECLARATION

We are public servants who value interdependence. We promise to always bear in mind that we are the face of the office we represent. As such, we will do our best to work in unity with our co-employees, setting aside personal motives, agenda and issues. We promise to prioritize the common good and public welfare. We surrender our personal rights for the sake of the common good. We are committed to work as one, act as one and move as one, and we will do our duties and responsibilities to fulfil our quota for the betterment of the lives of the Filipino people. So help us God.

PRAYER

Lord, as You are the Author of interdependence, we ask You to help us become like you. In everything we do, allow us to exhibit our respect for our colleagues, knowing fully well that we are moving as a one-man team in everything we do. Help us to give honor to whom it is due, help those in need, and understanding to those who need it. We ask for Your grace to govern and power to prevail over every negative situation in our workplace so that we can deliver what is expected of us to the people. Amen.

2023 Week 20 Filipino Value Focus: HUMILITY
05/15/2023

Humility is defined by Merriam-Webster as “freedom from pride or arrogance”. It is emptying oneself or denying oneself. It happens when the self is no longer at the forefront of one’s words and actions nor placed at the limelight of any conversation. It is acknowledging or considering others better than oneself. When tested, it is usually reflected in the quick admission o f mistake amidst available excuses and rationalizations. It is also the greatest power of winning others by taking pain or hurt upon oneself for the sake of unity or reconciliation. It is the foundation of wholesome relationship. One who always assert that he is right over another and does not want to lose any argument is a person who lacks humility.

Humility is also the key ingredient for greatness. As the Scriptures tell us: “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time”. The reason why promotion is delayed in many instances is because of the lack of humility as a requirement. If we lack humility, we will just be creating chaos at the top. We will abuse our authority and become tyrant. “The only way to go up is to go down” is an incontrovertible principle.

The secret to humility is simply admitting that we can do nothing apart from God. It is acknowledging the fact that we also need others for help. This makes a humble person a good team player. Individualism runs contrary to a humble nature. Through humility, we can understand clearly that when we were born, we brought nothing into the world; when we die, we cannot take anything out of it. All titles, awards, winnings, achievements, and acquisitions must be laid down before the feet of the Almighty.

Humility is one of the powers that can cut off the hold of the enemy in our lives. Simply because it is the opposite of pride by which satan fell into. Humility is the bedrock of submission to authority which a person full of pride will never do to anyone. One who is humble knows how to serve truly and naturally. At this hour, we need humble public servants who will lay their lives and serve wholeheartedly for our nation. Just like Jesus Christ, he emptied himself in the form of a servant and humbled himself even to the point of death. In due time, he was exalted by the Father in the highest place.

ACTION PLAN
Assess your conduct in the previous days or week. If we have hurt or offended somebody, let us go to them and ask for apology as a step towards humility.
As officers and employees of the government, let us nurture the culture of humility in the office by starting to serve one another as well as our clientele even if they may be of lower rank or status than us. Helping others carry their things or serving them with refreshments or food are simple acts of humility and love for one another.

DECLARATION
We are humble public servants. We understand that we should reach out and serve our clientele or any member of society regardless of their status in life. We shall not look down at them and we shall not be arrogant or conceited over anyone. Humility shall be seen in us even in the face of accolades and appreciation of men. The higher we reach, the more we will set our feet on the ground; the more achievements and success we have, the humble we will become.

PRAYER
Lord, make us as humble as You are. Even if You are God, You came in the likeness of man, You took the form of a servant and served us all by the dying at the cross of Calvary in order to bring salvation to us. You have set the example of humility and have demonstrated how to reach out unto others by going down to our level. You loved us while we are still sinners. With this, there is no reason that we should be arrogant and haughty. We also pray for all those who aspire for high government office. Help them to remain humble public servants by being amiable, sacrificial, and approachable at all times. All these we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
