(𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗲) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗲, on one of the prestigious international journal 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗮.
Along with other Japanese and Malaysian scientists, they described another dinoflagellate species belonging to the family Kareniaceae 𝑮. 𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒂, the second species discovered from this genus.
What makes this discovery particularly significant to the scientific community is that 𝑮. 𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒂 sp. nov. retains conventional peridinin-containing plastids, indicating vertical inheritance rather than plastid replacement. This contrasts with most kareniacean dinoflagellates, which possess haptophyte-derived plastids, and refines our understanding of plastid evolution within the family Kareniaceae.
