The 301 Laang Kawal CDC Nueva Ecija commemorates the heroism of Lapu-Lapu, the native chieftain who led Filipino warriors to victory against the Spanish forces of Ferdinand Magellan during the Battle of Mactan in 1521.

This historic event symbolizes courage, patriotism, and the Filipino spirit of defending sovereignty.

For LAANG KAWAL and ROTC Cadets , Lapu-Lapu Day serves as a reminder of duty, discipline, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protect the nation and uphold honor in service to the country.

From Mactan to the West Philippine Sea: the fight continues.

One Nation, One Stand- Then and Now.

Lapu-Lapu defended Mactan; we defend West Philippine Sea.

Through the initiative of the Center for Climate Change and Environmental Management (CCEM) leading the implementation of the activity funded under the University Gender and Development (GAD) Office (UGADO), a Gender Inclusive Basic Life Support (First Aid) Training for Central Luzon State University (CLSU) ROTC cadets was conducted on 28 March 2026 at the Umali Gymnasium.

The training is part of the university’s efforts to integrate gender-responsive approaches in student development and emergency preparedness. The activity was organized by CCEM and UGADO in partnership with the National Service Training Program (NSTP)-ROTC, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of Science City of Muñoz.

The program targeted ROTC cadets serving as medics and special services, equipping them with essential emergency response skills such as basic life support and management of common disaster-related injuries. Hands-on demonstrations allowed cadets to practice practical first aid techniques under the guidance of trainers from the CDRRMO.

The training is also to intensify the preparation of the corps for its upcoming Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI). Strengthening the emergency response capacity of cadet medics and special services personnel forms part of this preparation.

The training also aligned with the gender-responsive objectives of the GAD program, recognizing that women cadets now comprise a large portion of the ROTC corps. The initiative sought to ensure that life-saving skills and disaster response competencies are accessible and responsive to the needs of all cadets.

The program was graced by Prof. Zorille D.C. Villaflores, NSTP Director, Dr. Mercedita M. Reyes, Director of the University Gender and Development Office, and Engr. Randy G. Baldedara of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Science City of Muñoz.

Lectures on Basic Life Support and common disaster-related injuries were delivered by trainers from the CDRRMO, followed by demonstrations and practical exercises.

The activity concluded with the distribution of certificates and closing remarks from Prof. Roberto D. Pelayo, CCEM GAD Focal Person and Program Lead, highlighting the role of collaboration among university units and local government partners in strengthening disaster preparedness and gender-responsive training initiatives within CLSU.
