Despite the scorching heat, the momentum of the weeklong graduation ceremonies continued as the stage was set for the graduates of the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) and the College of Education (CEd) on May 24, 2026.

CBA: Driving the Economy through Transparency

The CBA recognized the hard work, perseverance, and resilience of its 328 graduates from the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, and Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting programs.

Mr. Ronald S. Leabres, a distinguished CBA alumnus, served as the guest speaker. In his address, he emphasized the importance of grit, self-belief, and trusting one's own capabilities amid life's uncertainties.

“May mga pagkakataon na mararamdaman ninyo na napag-iwanan na kayo. May pagkakataon na maiisip ninyong tama pa ba ang landas na tinatahak ko? Ngunit sa bawat pagdududa sa sarili, alalahanin ninyo kung sino kayo. Kayo ay mga graduate ng CLSU—hinubog ng disiplina, pinatatag ng karanasan, at inihanda upang mamuno,” Leabres remarked, reminding the graduates of their inherent strength as CLSU alumni.

In response, Ms. Amanda Marie Lodores delivered a poignant speech on behalf of the graduating class, looking back at their challenging yet rewarding journey as CBA students and expressing gratitude for the experiences that shaped them.

CEd: Shaping the Nation’s Future Educators

CEd proudly celebrated its 549 graduates who are officially ready to shape the minds of tomorrow. The cohort was comprised of 321 graduates from the Bachelor of Secondary Education, 85 from the Bachelor of Elementary Education, 51 from the Bachelor of Physical Education, 38 from the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, 39 from the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education, and 15 from the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education.

Dr. Danilo G. Tan, an established educator and former CLSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, served as the guest speaker. In his address, he elaborated on the theme, “Nakaugat na Pamana: Pinagyaman ng Karunungan, Ginabayan ng Kagandahang-asal, Pinapanday ang mga Lider ng Kinabukasan,” using his own journey—offering his life story as a living example of a heritage rooted in wisdom and character.

Meanwhile, Precious Lyneth C. Sampayan, one of the cohort's summa cm laude awardees, delivered a moving response on behalf of the graduating class, highlighting the role of teachers in building the future of the nation.

Before the program concluded, the atmosphere turned emotional during a surprise tribute. In a touching expression of gratitude, the graduates presented flowers to their parents, thanking them for their unwavering love and support.

The "Golden Grains" from the College of Agriculture (CAg) and the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) shone brightly in their academic regalia as they officially received their diplomas on stage during college-based graduation ceremonies held on March 23, 2026, celebrating the graduates' academic triumphs and their future roles in nation-building.

CAg: Partners of Farmers

The morning session was dedicated to the College of Agriculture, which recognized the hard work and perseverance of 566 graduates from the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, and Certificate in Agricultural Science programs. Among the cohort, 87 graduates received academic honors, composed of 6 Magna Cum Laude, 24 Cum Laude, 4 with High Honors, and 53 with Honors.

The commencement speaker was Dr. Federico O. Perez, CLSU Professor Emeritus, who shared inspiring reminders on facing new roles and challenges in the field of agriculture. He emphasized the vital need to bridge academic learning with real-world application.

"The world needs you, your fresh ideas, your compassion, and your determination. Carry your values like a compass, and let your leadership be defined not by how far you go alone, but by how many you bring along with you," Dr. Perez urged.

Class valedictorian Mr. Ysh Oliquiano, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 1.21 from the BS Agriculture program, highlighted the skills, knowledge, and wisdom that define agriculture students. He reminded his peers of their deeper purpose:

“Palalahanan natin ang ating mga sarili na ang pagtatapos ng kursong agrikultura ay hindi lamang para sa propesyon, bagkus ito rin ay may napakalaking kaakibat na misyon, ang maging bahagi sa pagkakaroon ng isang masaganang Pilipinas,” Oliquiano shared.

CASS: Champions of the Marginalized

In the afternoon session, the College of Arts and Social Sciences honored 248 exemplary graduates ready to champion the narratives of society from the Bachelor of Arts in Filipino, Bachelor of Arts in Literature, Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Development Communication, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

Out of this cohort, an impressive 140 students graduated with Latin honors. The college also conferred special institutional awards, including the Journalism Award, Leadership Award, Cultural Award, and Athletic Awards.

The celebration was further inspired by the presence of its commencement speaker, Mr. Kirk Patrick E. Alimaza, an alumnus of AB Social Sciences Batch 2005 of the former College of Arts and Sciences and now the Country Head of People at AirAsia Philippines. His speech underscores that character ultimately outweighs credentials.

"Your character will speak louder than your diploma. At duon ko mas pinahalagahan ang CLSU, because CLSU teaches us grit, adaptability, resilience, and street smarts, at minsan sa totoong buhay—iyon ang mas mahalaga,” he shared.

Responding on behalf of the graduating class, Ms. Aljone V. Viterbo, former Student Regent and recipient of the Leadership Award, delivered a powerful message that reminded the graduates of their role in transforming society:

She concluded her speech with a heartfelt message of gratitude to the families and support systems present.

"Sa lahat ng kapamilya at kaibigan na kasama namin ngayon, salamat po sa lahat ng inyong sakripisyo at pagmamahal na hindi matutumbasan ng kahit na anong bagay. Kayo po ang dahilan kung bakit kami nakatuntong sa mababa ngunit mahirap akyatin na entablado ng CLSU."

The commencement exercises celebrated more than just academic milestones; they underscored the graduates' profound potential to drive meaningful advancement in Philippine agriculture and societal development.

IN PHOTOS | CF, IGS Successfully Launch College-Based Grad Ceremonies

The momentum for the 74th Annual Commencement Exercises continued to build on May 22, as the afternoon spotlight turned exclusively to the College of Fisheries (CF) and the Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS).

Gathering at the Dr. Pedro Abella Graduation Site, these two distinct academic communities celebrated their milestone ceremonies under the university's newly adopted format, offering a more intimate, focused tribute to the unique paths of their graduates.

CF: A Call for Change and Service

Though few in number, the 19 high-caliber graduates of the CF took center stage to receive their hard-earned diplomas and awards, accompanied by their parents.

Serving as the commencement speaker was Dr. Ma. Jodecel C. Danting, Center Chief of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources - National Freshwater Technology Center (BFAR-NFTC). In her address, Dr. Danting challenged the new graduates to act as catalysts for societal progress and to serve the country with unwavering integrity.

"Kayo ang susunod na magbibigay ng pagbabago. Kayo ang susunod na inspirasyon ng susunod pang henerasyon. Kaya mangarap kayo nang malaki, magtrabaho kayo nang marangal, maglingkod kayo nang tapat at gamitin ninyo ang inyong kaalaman para sa kapakanan ng mas nakararami," Dr. Danting urged the graduates.

Delivering the address on behalf of the graduating class was John Lexter D. Torres, who graduated Cum Laude with an impressive GPA of 1.65. He reflected on the collective resilience and grit required to navigate their academic journey.

"Sa bawat kabiguan at sa bawat muling pagbangon, may mas malalim na layuning kung bakit patuloy na hinuhubog tayo ng buhay. Maaaring hindi naging madali ang ating paglalakbay, ngunit napatunayan nating kaya nating lampasan ang lahat," Torres shared.

IGS: Advancing Global Knowledge

Following the College of Fisheries, the academic procession continued with the advanced degree earners, recognizing a total of 64 advanced scholars - comprising 42 from the IGS and 22 from the Distance, Open, and Transnational University (DOT-UNI).

Prof. Froilan D. Mobo, PhD, DPA, Professor II at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, took the podium as the commencement speaker. He reminded the master's and doctoral degree holders of the profound responsibility that accompanies their academic achievements.

"The hood you wear today is a testament of your perseverance and a signal of your readiness to contribute to the global body of knowledge. Carry it on with humility of a lifelong student and the courage of a pioneer," Prof. Mobo stated.

A major highlight of the IGS ceremony was the presentation of the Best Thesis Award to Francis Ferald N. Madrid, Master of Science in Aquaculture. Guided by his adviser, Dr. Casiano H. Choresca, Jr., Madrid was recognized for his outstanding research titled, "Survival, Hematological, and Stress response of Saline-tolerant Tilapia Strain (Oreochromis spp.) in Brackishwater Environment."

Concluding the afternoon's speeches, Graduating Class Representative Renel M. Alucilja, PhD in Agricultural Engineering, inspired his fellow post-graduates to view the day not as a final stop, but as a launching pad for regional and global impact.

"Sometimes, we have our own pause, we have our own challenges. But we need to move forward. We should not simply end our journey here today. Our journey as innovators, as researchers, as managers, as leaders, has just started as we step out in the gates of CLSU," Dr. Alucilja remarked.

The successful conclusion of these specialized afternoon ceremonies set a high standard for the remaining colleges, as CLSU continues its week-long rollout of the 74th Commencement Exercises.

Life is like the changing seasons—we weather the heavy rains and strong storms, endure the catastrophe of drought and heat, and eventually watch the sunrise and sunset on the horizon once more.

For Peter Ryuken B. Hermosura, class of 2026 valedictorian, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, life has not always been clear skies, rainbows, and sunshine. Yet, against all odds, he has carved his name into the history books of Central Luzon State University (CLSU), holding an unprecedented 1.03 GPA—the highest ever recorded in the history of the university.

Raised near the coastal area of Obando, Bulacan, a municipality highly vulnerable to severe flooding due to the relentless habagat (southwest monsoon), typhoon, and worsened by the frequently damaged dikes, Peter grew up experiencing knee-deep waters every rainy season.

“Since childhood po, lalo na pag panahon na ng tag-ulan, lumulusong talaga kami sa hanggang tuhod na baha. Nakagisnan na namin na suyurin ang tubig baha para lang makapasok sa aming elementary school,”Peter recalls.

Instead of being washed away by discouragement, the flood sparked his interest in understanding the weather patterns and storms that frequently leave his town devastated.

Supported by the steadfast encouragement of his parents, Mrs. Donnalou and Mr. Ronnie Hermosura, Peter chose to chase his dream, even if it meant moving away from home to pursue his degree.

𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲

Being a consistent top student since elementary school, Peter was no stranger to academic success, but it came with heavy self-imposed pressure, which led to burnout and mental health struggles.

“May mga araw kasi na nakikita ka ng mga tao na kapag flat one ka, organized kang tao, matalino ka, pero to me that’s not the reality… I'm disorganized, I'm messy, I'm clumsy," Peter confesses.

"People may be giving me too much credit for who I really am. That's why I struggle with my mental health,” he added.

For Peter, maintaining an almost perfect grade point average brought a level of attention that felt overwhelming. To keep him from being swallowed by his own storms, Peter reminds himself to treat academic success as something as impermanent as the weather - pabago bago. He learned to navigate pressure by staying grounded and silencing his inner critic.

"Heights can be dizzying as the air gets thinner the higher you go. That is why I always keep myself grounded and keep my feet on the ground,” Peter reflected.

𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱𝘀

Growing up in the relentless cycle of Philippine storms, Peter directly witnessed the fury of Typhoons Ondoy in 2009, Glenda in 2014, and Ulysses in 2020 as they battered his hometown. Yet, watching his community rebuild time and time again did not discourage him—it gave him a purpose.

“What drives me is the belief that understanding these patterns can save lives. For me, it’s not just about decoding atmospheric chaos. It’s about protecting the livelihoods, dreams, and families living beneath those clouds,” Peter said with conviction.

Armed with unstoppable resilience, raw tenacity, and a heart that beats for the safety of others, Peter is stepping into the future ready to lead and continue to navigate through the seasons of life, no matter what atmospheric shifts lie ahead.

Life may be full of storms, cloudy days, and even unexpected seasons, but let us be reminded that through every challenge, we learn to stay strong and keep moving forward, because life goes on.

IN PHOTOS | Rooted in Resilience: CLSU Confers Degrees to 2,648 'Golden Grains'

Standing tall and proud like the iconic Narra trees framing the Pedro A. Abella Graduation Site, the 2,648 Golden Grains marched in their academic regalia armed with resilience, wisdom, and strong moral values, during the Conferment of Degree today, May 22, as part of the 74th Commencement Exercises.

CLSU President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella officially conferred the degrees upon the graduating class. The 2,648-strong cohort is distributed across the university’s diverse academic programs as follows: 566 from the College of Agriculture; 248 from College of Arts and Social Sciences; 328 from the College of Business and Accountancy, 549 from the College of Education, 385 from the College of Engineering, 19 from the College of Fisheries, 214 from the College of Home Science and Industry, 171 from College of Science, 104 from College of Veterinary Medicine and 64 from the Institute for Graduate Studies.

Serving as this year’s Commencement Speaker was Nueva Ecija Governor Aurelio "Oyie" Umali, who had been a partner of the university in ensuring that Novo Ecijanos receive world-class education, urging the graduates to use their knowledge to uplift the province and the nation. He also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the parents witnessing their children's milestones.

“As a father, I can relate to the parents. Alam ninyo, ang mga magulang ay gagawin ang lahat. It is our sincere desire to see our children achieve academic distinction, for after all, ang ka-isa-isang pangarap ng magulang ay makita ang kanyang anak na magtapos at magkaroon ng kalakasang mabuhay para sa kanyang sarili,” said Gov. Umali.

Representing the graduating class, Valedictorian Peter Ryuken Hermosura captivated the crowd with a powerful speech. He beautifully likened the journey of a Sielesyuan to the cycles of the weather, closing with an urgent call to action for his peers to become active agents of systemic change.

Following the main ceremony, the college-based graduation rites and the awarding of individual diplomas and certificates commenced this afternoon.

In his message, Bishop Samuel challenged the graduates to use their education not just for personal gain but to support sustainable agriculture, uplift farmers, and heal a wounded planet. He also encouraged the graduates to pursue their dreams while remaining firmly grounded in the values and roots that nurtured them.

“Continue to dream big, explore the world, and achieve great things. But please, do not leave your roots behind. Stay grounded in your heritage, your family, your values, and your faith. These are not chains that hold you back. They are the roots that keep you strong,” said Bishop Samuel.

NEWS | CLSU to Hold First-Ever College-Based Graduation; Class Valedictorian Records 1.03 GPA - the Highest in University History

To provide a more intimate and meaningful celebration for graduates and their families, Central Luzon State University (CLSU) will transition to a college-based graduation format for its 74th Annual Commencement Exercises, scheduled from May 21 to 26, 2026.

This new format addresses the university's growing student population and streamlines logistics by eliminating the traditional Tea Party and integrating student recognition programs directly into the college-specific events.

This initiative was proposed and approved through the Council of Deans to honor the graduates’ parents and guardians by allowing them to join the academic procession, accompany the graduates on stage during the awarding of diplomas and recognition rites, take commemorative photographs, and witness the ceremony more closely through a more personalized and meaningful program flow that departs from the traditional commencement format.

The university will recognize 2,648 graduates this year, with 959 earning academic honors. Among the honor graduates are 57 with Honors, 6 with High Honors, 728 Cum Laude, and 165 Magna Cum Laude.

Three exceptional students earned the highest academic distinction of Summa Cum Laude for the Class of 2026. Leading the graduating class as Class Valedictorian is Mr. Peter Ryuken Hermosura of the BS Meteorology program, who achieved an outstanding 1.03 GPA - the highest general weighted average ever recorded in the history of CLSU.

Joining him at the pinnacle of academic excellence are Ms. Precious Lyneth Sampayan of the Bachelor of Secondary Education program, who earned a remarkable 1.11 GPA, and Mr. Karl Harvey Santiago of the BA Social Sciences program, who attained an impressive 1.16 GPA. Together, they exemplify the unwavering commitment, discipline, and academic excellence that define the Class of 2026.

Guided by the theme, "Nakaugat sa pamana, pinagyaman ng karunungan, ginabayan ng kagandahang-asal, pinapanday ang mga lider ng kinabukasan," the week-long milestone will follow a revised timeline.

The graduation events will officially start on Thursday, May 21, with the Ecumenical Baccalaureate Services.

On Friday morning, May 22, at 6:00 AM, CLSU will hold a unified, university-wide ceremony dedicated to the formal conferment of degrees.

Following the main event, individual colleges will host separate graduation ceremonies starting the afternoon of Friday, May 22, and will run until Tuesday, May 26. These smaller, localized events will handle individual student marching and diploma distribution.

As the campus finalizes its preparations, the university administration encourages the graduating class to fully appreciate this momentous milestone, which represents the culmination of nearly half a decade of their academic perseverance.
