The CLSU Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (DHTM) successfully conducted two meaningful seminars on September 15, 2026, at the CLSU Multipurpose Gym, providing first-year students with valuable opportunities to strengthen their leadership, professional, and personal development skills in preparation for the hospitality and tourism industry.
The first seminar, the โ360ยฐ Leaderโ Seminar, carried the theme โLeadership Beyond Limits: Shaping the Future of Tourism and Hospitality.โ The session featured Dr. Dana G. Vera Cruz as the resource speaker, who engaged students in discussions centered on leadership development, effective leadership practices, and the importance of cultivating confidence and capability among future tourism and hospitality professionals. The seminar encouraged students to view leadership not only as a position but as a responsibility that can create meaningful contributions to the industry.
Complementing the leadership seminar was the โProfessional Image and Career Excellence Seminar: Building Confidence, Elevating Professionalism, and Preparing Future Industry Professionals,โ which highlighted the role of professional image and self-confidence in the workplace. The session was led by Ms. Glyden Somera, together with Ms. Ma. Elisa Cruz and Ms. Michelle Anne Guzman of OMNI Aviation Corporation. Students were introduced to practical concepts such as color analysis and skin undertones, proper and professional makeup application, and the importance of maintaining a polished and appropriate professional appearance in the hospitality and tourism workplace.
The two seminars provided first-year Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) and Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students with practical knowledge and industry-oriented insights that complemented their classroom learning. By integrating leadership development, professional image, and career preparation, the activities encouraged students to build confidence, strengthen their professional identity, and develop the values and competencies expected of future hospitality and tourism professionals.
The seminars were organized by second-year BSTM students from Blocks 2-2 and 2-3, as part of their course in Introduction to Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (M.I.C.E.), under the guidance and supervision of their course instructors, Ms. Shane Yra Balmeo and Ms. Christine Dawn Tapic. Through their involvement in planning, coordination, and facilitation, the students gained valuable hands-on experience in organizing and managing professional events, reflecting DHTMโs emphasis on experiential learning and industry-based education.
Through these seminars, CLSU DHTM continues to provide students with opportunities to develop not only technical competencies but also the leadership, confidence, professionalism, and interpersonal skills essential to their future careers. The activities further demonstrate the departmentโs commitment to preparing graduates who are capable, confident, and ready to contribute meaningfully to the dynamic and ever-evolving hospitality and tourism industry.
