The College of Arts and Sciences - College Student Council Officers are currently participating in the Leadership Organizational Development Training (LODT) organized by the CSPC - Supreme Student Council, in partnership with the Student Affairs and Services Office (SASO).

This activity mainly focuses on empowering leaders to serve with purpose, lead with excellence to shape communities, lead with responsibility, and lead with integrity to unite the students and the organization.

September 21, 1972, stands as a reminder of a time when the freedoms of many Filipinos were placed under threat. The declaration of Martial Law ushered in an era of fear, censorship, and human rights violations, leaving wounds that extended far beyond its years. Yet, even in the face of oppression, the voices of those who sought justice continued to challenge the silence.

Remembering Martial Law is more than looking back at a chapter in our history. It is recognizing the value of the freedoms we hold today and understanding the cost of losing them. The stories of those who endured, resisted, and fought for democracy remind us that history must be examined honestly, and that the voices of its victims deserve to be heard.

As we commemorate this day, may we carry the lessons of the past into the present. May we remain vigilant in defending human rights, upholding truth, and protecting the democracy that generations of Filipinos struggled to reclaim. For when history is forgotten, its lessons fade, and the future risks repeating the mistakes of yesterday.

Opening with remarks from CSPC SSC President Jester Carl SJ. Sumpay and messages of support from VP for Academic Affairs Jocelyn O. Jintalan and CSPC SUC President III Amado A. Oliva Jr., the event welcomed new officers of accredited student organizations, who took their oath of office before the institutionโ€™s leaders.

Esmendaโ€™s talk emphasized that leadership begins with presence: trust and followership grow only when leaders show up, stand accountable, and carry out duties with consistent responsibility. Accountability is the price of leadership. If you are not present, you cannot be accountable โ€” and no one will follow.
