The Supreme Student Council would like to formally inform the entire Marinersโ community that the General Acquaintance Party (GAP) 2026 has been cancelled following significant changes to the original event concept and proposal.
Earlier this afternoon, a meeting was held with the Office of the President, Student Affairs and Services (SAS), and the Chief of Academic regarding the proposed changes to GAP 2026.
We regret to formally inform the students, faculty, staff, and the entire Marinersโ community that the General Acquaintance Party (GAP) 2026 has been cancelled following changes to the original event concept and proposal.

These proposed changes were discussed during a meeting with the Office of the President, SAS Director, and the Chief of Academic, wherein revisions to the original event concept and proposal were presented.
Following the meeting, the Presidents/ Representatives of the ๐ญ๐ญ ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐๐๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป were convened to discuss the proposed changes, considering that the participation of students would largely depend on the decision and capacity of their respective organizations.

- Holding the activity from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM may cause discomfort among participants due to the expected heat and humidity during daytime hours. Additionally, the venue does not have sufficient shaded areas, while renting additional canopies or tents would entail considerable expenses that could significantly affect the event budget.
2. ๐๐๐๐ช๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ ๐ค๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฉ ๐ผ๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐จ
- The proposed removal of the live band, DJ, and mocktail bar would substantially change the atmosphere and entertainment component of the event. These elements were integral to the original concept of the General Acquaintance Party and were intended to provide students with an enjoyable and engaging experience.
3. ๐๐ง๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฏ๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ ๐ฝ๐ค๐ค๐ฉ๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐ช๐๐ง๐๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐จ
- The requirement for all 11 organizations to prepare booths presents additional logistical and financial challenges. With examinations and other academic requirements taking place, organizations may have limited time and resources to prepare their respective booths. Some non-academic organizations may also have insufficient funds to support the additional expenses associated with booth preparation. Furthermore, the General Acquaintance Party was primarily envisioned as an opportunity for students to socialize, enjoy, and build connections. Requiring students and organizations to undertake additional preparations may lessen the intended recreational nature of the event.

- The General Acquaintance Party was primarily conceptualized as a student-centered activity. While the participation and presence of faculty and staff are valued and appreciated, the proposed inclusion of faculty and staff performances would further alter the original direction and intended focus of the event.
In consideration of these concerns, and after consultation with the participating organizations, the decision was made not to proceed with the revised General Acquaintance Party 2026 proposal.
