Strengthening Labor Market Information Through Capacity Building

The Libmanan Government Public Employment Service Office (PESO), in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC), successfully conducted the “Essential Office Productivity and Communication Tools: Strengthening Labor Market Information (LMI)” capacity-building activity for Barangay Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Coordinators and Staff.

The School of Information and Computer Sciences (SCIS) of the University of Nueva Caceres shared its expertise in office productivity and communication, with its faculty and students serving as speakers and facilitators throughout the activity.

The capacity-building program focused on enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills in essential office productivity and communication tools, while strengthening their capacity to effectively gather, manage, and communicate Labor Market Information in support of their respective communities.

This collaborative initiative highlights the commitment of the Libmanan Government PESO, DOLE, and UNC to empowering local employment service personnel and promoting more responsive, efficient, and accessible employment services.

As part of this year’s History Month celebration, the University of Nueva Caceres hosted a courtesy visit with Mr. Carlo Buenaflor, Honorary Consul of Spain for the Bicol Region, bringing together partners and advocates committed to deepening our understanding of Bicol’s history, heritage, and cultural connections.

The gathering was joined by the Bikol Wikipedia Community, headed by its President Mr. Irvin Parco Sto. Tomas, and the Nueva Caceres Heritage Movement, Inc., represented by Ma’am Badette Roco and its President, Ar. Josenia Baldoza-Merencillo.

Mr. Buenaflor shared a proposal to explore the inclusion of Spanish language in the University’s curriculum, alongside workshops that will encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of the language. More than learning a foreign language, the initiative invites us to rediscover a part of our own history - our connections to Spain through language, culture, and heritage, even reflected in the Spanish origins of the name Nueva Caceres.

These conversations are part of a larger effort to equip our students with a deeper appreciation of the historical narratives that shaped our city and region - one of the key thrusts of the Nueva Caceres Heritage Movement and its continuing engagement with the University.

The celebration continues on August 30, as the Bikol Wikipedia Community partners with the UNC Museum for a Proofreadathon, helping preserve and make accessible valuable historical records and knowledge. On the same day, the University will also host a lecture and basic Spanish language workshop, opening another space to reconnect with the language and heritage that form part of our shared past.
