NEWS | YOUNG INK, UNWAVERING VOICE: 5TH YJPFC CONVENES CAMPUS JOURNALISTS

Young journalists across Central Luzon gather in Orani, Bataan to uphold press freedom and responsible journalism

Five delegates from The Herald joined 412 student journalists representing 36 higher education institution (HEI) publications from Region III in the congress held at Plaza Antonino Orani, Bataan.

The annual event brought together campus journalists and publication advisers to strengthen their understanding of press freedom, ethical journalism, and the responsibilities of young journalists in reporting issues that affect their communities.

The congress opened with a message from Dr. Ruby Santos-Matibag, University President of Bataan Peninsula State University.

Key speakers also shared their expertise throughout the event, including Dr. Jan Adams D. Magtanong of Pastolan Integrated School, Dr. Gladie Natheine G. Cabinizas, publication adviser of The Work of Tarlac State University, and Assoc. Prof. Benjar V. Ramos of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

The speakers highlighted the role of campus journalists in upholding truth, accountability, and responsible journalism while exercising press freedom.

For participating student journalists, the congress served as a venue for learning, professional development, and exchange of experiences among campus publications from across Central Luzon.

The 5th YJPFC was organized by the Gitnang Luzon Alliance of Campus Press Advisers, Inc. (GLACPA) in partnership with the Young Journalists Association of Region III (YJAR 3).

With press freedom comes the responsibility to tell the truth and serve the public. As young journalists return to their respective campuses, the 5th YJPFC left them with a renewed commitment to uphold integrity, accountability, and responsible journalism—one story at a time.
