RAMYAGAN film festival was inspired from the Asi word
"ramyagan" which refers to a small kerosene, oil lamp or those that are fueled by gas traditionally used by Romblomanon locals, especially elders during the time when electricity had yet to reach many communities. These humble lamps served as a vital source of light for households across the province, from lowland areas to remote highlands.
The term ramyagan is also rooted in the word "ramyag," which means "to stay up late." True to its meaning, we've grew up with the ramyagan burning through the night, illuminating homes and guiding families safely until morning. More than just a household item, it became a symbol of warmth, safety, and resilience. Elders would often say, "Hariiney tong ako ramyagan nak karuyomey paman," as dusk approached, an expression that reflects both reliance on this small yet essential source of light. This cultural symbol serves as the heart of the RAMYAGAN Student Film Festival.
What brought us to this inspiration of our Student Film Festival in CCMADI?
The ramyagan as a small lamp, symbolizes foundation and light of every BMMA student's journey as they take their road to the field of multimedia arts. A small light that flickers symbolize their collective idea and creativity which is showcased in this festival. Each film produced and showcased is a product of their perseverance, passion and even countless sleepless nights a true product of their ramyag. Ramyagan Student Film Festival is not only a culmination of activities nor requirement to finish the course, Fundamentals of Video and Film Production, it is a celebration of creativity and passion of our young filmmakers and showcase of stories that shape today's generation. Like the small lamp that inspired it, the festival serves to illuminate paths, inspire journeys, and keep the flame of creativity alive among BMMA students.
