The Observer (EVSU - Ormoc) "Observer" is the official student publications of Eastern Visayas State University - Ormoc City Cam

Republic Act No. 7079 otherwise known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991 provides for the training on campus journalism and the organization and development of school publications. In this connection it has been declared by the State policy to uphold and protect the freedom of the press even at the campus level and to promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a means of strength

ening ethical values, encouraging critical and creative thinking and developing moral character and personal discipline of the Filipino youth. The agency involved in the campus journalism program of the Eastern Visayas State University tasked of supporting and promoting the policies and objectives under R.A. 7079 otherwise known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991 shall be known as the EVSU - OCC (Eastern Visayas State University - Ormoc City Campus) - Student Publications Office.

Evsunistas, did you know that Labor Day is a tradition that is celebrated by more than sixty countries around the world every May 1 of the year? Yes, it is, and the Philippines is one of the countries that celebrates Labor Day, or in Filipino, "Araw ng mga Manggagawa." This day is a special tribute to the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of our passionate Filipino workers and to ensure fair rights for all workers.

With this, we are extending our sincerest thank you to all the workers, whether paid or unpaid, full-time or part-time, public or private. We thank you and appreciate your tireless work. Now, relax and enjoy your day off; you have earned and deserved it!

A night of glitz, glamour, and inspiration as students from the Hospitality Management program ramp up their shimmering dresses and suits with confidence for the night's event.

The Business Management faculty and staff, headed by the Department Head Dr. Genelyn M. Calzada, Dr. Rogelio Basas, Prof. Lyra C. Rodriguez, Prof. Roderick Omega, Prof. Alvi Jean Weti attended this glamorous event at EVSU Ormoc Campus Covered Court on April 30, 2023

At the end of the program, Mr. Miguel Cabisas and Ms. Jocelyn Torres were announced as the Star of the Night while the Section 2D claimed the title "Most Active Section".

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | On April 28, 2023 the 2nd-year students from the Hospitality Management program together with their subject teacher, Prof. Bonard B. Torres, organized an event called "Kape Hiraya" that took place in EVSU-OC Function Hall. The event primarily tackled about the world of business and employment.

The guest speakers of the event were PESO (Public Employment Service Office) Ormoc City Administrative Aid, Analuna P. Jimenea, and PESO Manager-CTEC, Josephine B. Hermosilla. The topics discussed by the speakers are Employment Coaching and the Dos and Don'ts when you are looking for a job. They also tackled about the Public Employment Service Office of Ormoc and the services that they offer such as job assistance, scholarships, and livelihood programs with coordination of DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment). In addition, the guest speakers also gave insights into the employment rate and job demands in Ormoc City.

All in all, Kape Hiraya is a talk show that allows students and faculty in EVSU-OC to share ideas and ask questions to guest speakers. This is just only the first edition of the Kape Hiraya series, as there is more to come in the future.

𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 | QUEEN HM 2023

The future Hoteliers and Restaurateurs of EVSU-OC hailed their first-ever Queen of Hospitality Management during the night of glamour in their recently concluded Queen HM 2023 at EVSU-OC Covered Court.

The event is one of the activities being prepared by the HRAP (Hoteliers and Restaurateurs Association of the Philippines) Organization in celebration of their Hospitality Management Days. The pageant is intended for BSHM students in the LGBTQ+ community. Queen Diana Vesta was crowned as Queen HM Universe 2023 and she also garnered five special awards, indeed tonight was her night.
