The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) โ Pasacao Campus actively participated in a significant local governance engagement through the presentation of an extension proposal during the 40th Regular Session held on April 27, 2026, at the Libmanan Municipal Hall.
The delegation was composed of several faculty members from CBSUA Pasacao, led by the Campus Administrator, Dr. Kristine May C. Regaspi, with strong representation from the College of Arts, Management, and Sciences (CAMS). Their presence underscored the universityโs commitment to community extension, environmental stewardship, and collaborative development with local government units.
A highlight of the session was the presentation delivered by Sir Bernyl Moron, who introduced the proposed initiative titled โGAPAS โ Grassroots Alliance for the Protection and Sustainability of Camptostemon philippinense (Vidal) Becc.โ This project centers on the conservation and sustainable management of a rare and ecologically significant mangrove species endemic to the Philippines. The proposal emphasized the importance of grassroots participation, aiming to empower local communities as key stakeholders in environmental protection efforts.
The GAPAS initiative outlines strategies that integrate education, community engagement, and scientific approaches to ensure the long-term preservation of this species. It also highlights the role of academic institutions like CBSUA in bridging research and community action, fostering partnerships that contribute to biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
The presentation was well-received by the members of the municipal council, opening avenues for potential collaboration between CBSUA Pasacao and the Local Government Unit of Libmanan. This engagement reflects the universityโs dedication to responsive extension services and its proactive role in addressing pressing environmental concerns at the community level.
The extension proposal was formally approved by the committee during the session, marking a significant milestone for the GAPAS initiative. This approval paves the way for its implementation and strengthens the collaborative efforts between CBSUA Pasacao and the Municipality of Libmanan in advancing environmental sustainability and community-based conservation programs.
