As we commemorate the declaration of Martial Law on September 21, we memorialize our country and the people who have fought, suffered, and survived over 8 years of darkness and hardships. This day is not only a reminder of our nation's past, but also its citizens'.

For the past 54 years, we stand together to recognize the resilience of the people affected. Their stories continues to remind us the value of peace, freedom, dignity, democracy, and human rights—privileges we may sometimes take for granted today, but were once denied to many.

Acknowledging the past does not mean holding on to it. It means giving meaning, respect, and honor to the lives and stories of those who came before us, whose voices never had the chance to be heard.

May we remember this day with understanding and honor. May our eyes and ears remain open, especially for those who were silenced and hurt. We commemorate, not to hold on to the darkness of our past, but to dream of a brighter future for our nation.
