PUBLAB seminar workshop with the theme, โFrom Idea to Impactโ took place on September 21, 2026, at the Student Activity Center, City University of Pasay (CUP). This seminar was based on the creative sharing of stories as well as information provided through publication materials, photography, and the writing of captions.
The event opened with messages and inspirational remarks from Dr. Rosanie F. Estuche, the University President; Prof. Cleofe T. Castor, the adviser of the Central Student Council; and Prof. Kenneth Nyl Oresco, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs.
PUBLAB seminar was began with a brief presentation of Mr. Jaymarck Dagongdong, who is a Production Assistant and narrated some experiences of his photography and production work. A career as a photographer, use of a Canon DSLR camera, different types of DSLR and mirrorless cameras, portable camera features, and more were all covered by him. As well as talking about my career as a photographer, using a Canon DSLR camera, and explaining the features of portable cameras, he also shared an experience that a photograph is not just a photo, it has a story to tell.
The second speech was delivered by Mr. Ralph Christian Atienza, the Public Relations Officer (P.R.O.) of the Central Student Council, who talked about his experience in making publication materials. He compared between the works he is doing at the present time and what he did in the past, stating that his artistry seemed to be improving. Fonts and colors were also included as a topic, during which it was mentioned that pubmats should be creatives but also effective and informative.
As one of the subject materials, Ms. Ma. Alexis Bumanglag, Editor-in-Chief of Ang Salimbay, talked about the significance of caption writing. The 5Ws (What, When, Where, Who, and Why) were well described as the main features of writing appropriate captions. She also shared how captions should be informative, offering context, engaging, and encouraging action to send out the desired message.
Through these conversations, participants have collected some lessons in photography, pubmat design, and caption writing. Publishing is creativity and exchange of stories and meaningful information and audience connection. As such, the participants ought to know these lessons as they will implement their plans and content creation skills.
