Ms. Viory Janeo and Dr. Jovi Dacanay received the Best Paper Award during the 8th Asia Future Conference (AFC 8) Awarding Ceremony, held at Tohoku Gakuin University and Kokusai Hotel in Sendai, Japan.

Their paper examines remittances and their effects on the economy, highlighting the important role of remittance flows in economic development and their ability to cushion the impact of external shocks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper was originally presented during the 6th Asia Future Conference.

They were honored alongside other Best Paper Award recipients from universities across Asia and other parts of the world.

Economist and former Tariff Commissioner George Manzano said securing a lower U.S. tariff rate would require stronger scrutiny, traceability, and customs procedures for imports involving forced labor.

However, he said uncertainty from frequent changes in tariff policy poses a bigger problem for businesses, making planning and supply chain adjustments more difficult.
