๐๐๐๐| Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig formalized a partnership with Khan Academy Philippines, Inc. yesterday, June 8, 2026 at PLP Learning Commons through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), reaffirming their shared mission to improve students quality of life through education.
The event was attended by PLP officials, students, faculty, staff, and Khan Academy representatives. According to Ms. Maria Lilibeth Olivar, Community Affairs and Linkages Officer, some of the expected outcomes of this collaboration is to promote the use of digital learning platforms, provide meaningful field experiences for pre-service teachers, and identify student learning gaps that may require targeted interventions.
In his welcoming remarks, PLP President Dr. Glicerio M. Maningas emphasized the shared mission of both institutions in providing quality education to learners.
โPLP exists because we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools to empower and improve the quality of lifeโฆ Today, we gather not only to sign the memorandum of agreement but to affirm a shared commitment to reimagine education and make learning more accessible,โ President Maningas said.
Representing Khan Academy, Executive Director Justine Raagas highlighted the organization's mission of making quality education accessible to more Filipinos through technology.
โEducation is a powerful tool that uplift the lives of Filipinos.โ Dir. Raagas said, adding that she believes in the power of local governance in being a key player in education and local colleges in ensuring access to education.
In her message, she also shared that Khan Academy is a free online learning platform that offers courses from elementary to advanced levels. It began in the United States and was brought to the Philippines in 2023.
It started with only four pioneering people in schools in Manila and since then, it has partnered with multiple schools and now reaching approximately 2.7 million Filipino learners nationwide.
She noted that while the courses are designed from Grades 1 to Senior High School, the organization seeks to address learning challenges identified in national education assessments, including concerns raised in the EDCOM 2 findings on student proficiency levels and how some college students still lack the expected proficiency in their level.
According to Raagas, through its partnership with the Department of Education, the platform is being utilized as a daily learning tool in classrooms across the country with around 3,000 users to more than half a million registered Filipino students.
The ceremonial signing was led by President Maningas, Dir. Raagas, and Dir. Bernadeth Daran, Director for Strategic Engagements and Partnerships, together with PLP College of Education Dean Maila N. Unsay.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Fritz Gerald V. Jaminit, PLP Officer-in-Charge Vice President for Academic Affairs, who shared his personal experiences using Khan Academy in teaching his students.
Participants wrapped up the ceremony with the chant โWe Khan (Can) Do It!โ as both institutions sealed their commitment to expanding access to quality, world-class and technology-driven education.
