The Department of Islamic Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, Mindanao State University–Sulu, in coordination with the Supreme Student Council (SSC) and the College of Arts and Sciences Students' Association (CASSA) and the Muslim Students Association (MSA), will officially open the Ramadhan Preparation & Spiritual Renewal Symposium, with the participation of students and faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM).

We are honored to have our beloved Chancellor, Prof. Nagder J. Abdurahman, Ed.D. as the Guest of Honor, whose presence and message will grace the opening of this meaningful academic and spiritual gathering as we prepare for the blessed month of Ramadhan.

In line with strengthening institutional capacity and professional development, the Chairperson of the Islamic Studies Department, Prof. Hasanul Basariy B. Alam , together with two faculty members, Ustadz Gamir Abbas Pandi and Ustadz Benson J. Baid, successfully attended the Halal Competency Training on 17–19 December 2025 at MSU–IIT, Iligan City.

The training was undertaken with the full support of the Chancellor of MSU-Sulu, Dr. Nagder J. Abdurahman, who covered the participants’ travel and registration expenses. The Department extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Nagder J. Abdurahman for his invaluable support and steadfast commitment to faculty development and institutional advancement.

As part of the benchmarking activities, the Chairperson of the Department of Islamic Studies, Hasanul Basariy Alam, together with faculty members Ustadz Algamir A. Pandi and Ustadz Benson J. Baid, conducted an official benchmarking visit to MSU–Main Campus, Marawi City, in support of the proposed Bachelor of Science in Teaching Arabic program.

During the visit, the delegation held a formal meeting with the Dean of the King Faisal Center for Islamic, Arabic, and ASEAN Studies, Atty. Jashim AbdulRahman, and the Chairperson of the Department of Teaching Arabic, Prof. Aleem Ansary H. Bato together with their faculty members. The discussions focused on curriculum structure, faculty qualifications, instructional strategies, and best practices relevant to the implementation of the proposed program.

The Department of Islamic Studies sincerely expresses its deepest gratitude to the administrators and faculty of MSU–Main Campus, particularly the King Faisal Center for Islamic, Arabic, and ASEAN Studies and the Department of Teaching Arabic, for their warm accommodation, valuable insights, and generous support extended during the benchmarking activity. Last November 6, 2025, the Department of Islamic Studies officially began its series of Career Guidance and Orientation activities for senior high school learners at Sulu National High School.

The activity aimed to guide students in exploring academic opportunities and understanding the pathways offered under the Islamic Studies program, encouraging them to pursue meaningful roles in education, da’wah, and community service.

Our heartfelt appreciation to the School Principal, Mr. Dharwin Pangambayan, for his warm welcome, support, and accommodation during our visit.

The Department of Islamic Studies conducted a faculty and staff meeting on September 30, 2025, attended by its members.

1. Opening

The meeting started with welcoming remarks and the introduction of the newly hired faculty member, Ustadz Benson Baid, who was warmly received by the department.

2. Agenda Discussed

Upcoming Activities

Conduct of Career Guidance and Islamic Studies Orientation to different schools.

The Academic Committee of the Department was assigned to prepare and facilitate activities for the University Week this coming December 2025.

Faculty Development

Training opportunities for faculty members, specifically:

Course on International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

Training on OBE (Outcome-Based Education) Syllabus Making.

Upcoming Event

Pre-Ramadhan Seminar 2026.

Student Affairs

Appointment of Scholarship Coordinator

Extension Program

Today, the Chairperson of the Islamic Studies Department, Prof. Hasanul Basariy B. Alam along with Prof. Al-Rashir Kulani, paid a courtesy visit to the Chancellor, Dr. Nagder J. Abdurahman. Prof. Hasanul Basariy B. Alam, Chairperson of the Department of Islamic Studies, MSU-Sulu, has successfully completed the Course on International Humanitarian Law and Shariah Law related to Armed Conflict (Siyar) held at Ateneo de Davao. This accomplishment is a significant milestone for the department, particularly in enriching the International Relations course offered under the Islamic Studies program. The department reaffirms its commitment to integrating global perspectives with Shariah principles in the service of peace, justice, and humanity.
