SBLC Engages in College Immersion and Higher Education Exchange in Hawai‘i

Dr. Roland D. Villegas, SBLC President, joined leaders from the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in a meaningful college immersion and higher education exchange in Hawai‘i. The engagement began with a traditional campus oli, followed by discussions and learning sessions with Leeward Community College administrators and key campus stakeholders.

The delegation was also honored by the presence of Patricia Espiritu Halagao, PhD, Professor in the Department of Curriculum Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s College of Education and Co-Director of the Center for Philippine Studies.

The immersion provided valuable insights into Hawai‘i’s community college model, with discussions centered on workforce development, student success, industry partnerships, global education, and institutional collaboration. The exchange offered an opportunity to learn from Hawai‘i’s higher education practices while exploring potential areas for collaboration between institutions in Hawai‘i and the Philippines.

This college immersion reflects SBLC’s commitment to continuous institutional learning, quality education, global engagement, and meaningful academic partnerships. It also reinforces the College’s support for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

SBLC Celebrates Quezon City Day!

In commemoration of the birth anniversary of former President Manuel L. Quezon whose dream gave rise to the largest city in the country, August 19 is observed as a special non-working holiday in Quezon City.

Established in 1939, Quezon City "was envisioned by President Quezon as a modern capital that would support the country's growing population and aspirations. It later served as the nation's capital from 1948 until 1976 and remains the country's largest city by land area."

May we continue to celebrate the rich history, vibrant community, and enduring spirit of Quezon City.

Maligayang Araw ng Lungsod Quezon!
