It has evolved significantly since its inception as a high school in 1945, and in 2000, it became one of four satellite campuses in the Third Congressional District of Iloilo within the West Visayas State University (WVSU) system. The institution was founded as ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—›๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—น (๐—œ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ผ ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ต) in 1945 un

It evolved into ๐—œ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ผ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—›๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—น in 1946 and then to ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—›๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—น in 1947, maintaining this name until 1957. Initially, classes were held in the NARIC building. They later moved to a 20-room nipa building at the town plaza before eventually transferring to the current site in Barangay Cau-ayan, Pototan. The 11.5-hectare school site includes 9.5 hectares donated by civic-minded Pototanons and an additional 2 hectares purchased by the school. On June 22, 1957, Pototan High School was converted to ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฉ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—น under Republic Act 1924. For 26 years, this institution served as a training ground for technical-vocational education. It was under the supervision of the Bureau of Public Schools and adhered to the provisions of the School Law, offering secondary-level courses. On June 24, 1983, by virtue of Batas Pambansa Blg. 610, the school was converted into Degree programs in education were added to the trade-technical courses, and more buildings and classrooms were constructed, along with the acquisition of additional facilities. The Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports authorized the offering of various programs, including Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education, Bachelor of Science in Practical Arts, Post-Secondary Trade Technical Education, and Secondary Trade Education. On January 29, 1999, under Special Provision No. 9 of Republic Act 8760, Pototan College of Arts and Sciences was integrated into West Visayas State University, Iloilo City. This integration became operational on August 22, 2000, through the issuance of CHED Memorandum Order 27, series of 2000. Since then, the school has been known as Under WVSU, the Pototan campus has expanded its degree programs to include teacher education, industrial technology, information technology, business, and management. The campus administration, both past and present, has spearheaded significant improvements to the physical infrastructure. These enhancements include constructing new buildings, renovating existing structures, acquiring modern equipment, and upgrading facilities to better serve the needs of a knowledge-based society. For over two decades, WVSU in Pototan has distinguished itself as a leading institution for education and training in the central part of the province. #

The proposed Municipal Sports Complex at the WVSU Pototan Campus has taken a significant step forward following the recent request of Hon. Mayor Rafael Enrique "Adi" P. Lazaro for key documentary requirements needed for the project's preliminary evaluation and planning on June 1, 2026.

Among the documents requested by Mayor Lazaro and released by the campus are the lot plan of the proposed project area, the land title, and the campus site development plan. These documents will serve as essential references for the initial assessment, technical evaluation, and forthcoming site inspection activities related to the proposed development.

In support of the initiative, Mayor Lazaro has likewise coordinated with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to seek technical assistance and explore possible funding opportunities for the project. The collaboration aims to ensure that the proposed facility complies with established standards and requirements and may qualify for infrastructure support from the PSC.

The submission and evaluation of the required documents form part of the preparatory process for the development of the necessary project proposals and supporting documentation. Once completed, these will provide the basis for further deliberations, feasibility assessments, and funding considerations.

Dr. Raymund B. Gemora, Campus Administrator, warmly welcomed this significant development, describing it as a promising milestone in the continued growth of both the campus and the municipality. He expressed optimism that the proposed Municipal Sports Complex, an initiative of the Local Government Unit of Pototan under the leadership of Hon. Mayor Lazaro, will serve as a premier hub for sports development, athletic excellence, and community engagement.

Once realized, the facility is expected to provide a modern venue for athletic training, sports competitions, physical education classes, wellness activities, and various community-based programs. More importantly, it will create greater opportunities for young athletes to hone their talents and pursue excellence in sports.

Beyond serving the needs of WVSU Pototan students and personnel, the sports complex is envisioned to benefit local athletes, sports enthusiasts, and residents of Pototan and neighboring communities by providing access to quality sports infrastructure. The project is likewise expected to strengthen grassroots sports development, promote healthy lifestyles, and foster stronger collaboration between the university, the local government, and other stakeholders in advancing youth and community development through sports.

The initiative underscores the strong partnership among the Local Government Unit of Pototan, WVSU Pototan Campus, and national government agencies in advancing youth development, promoting healthy lifestyles, and strengthening grassroots sports development. Once the project comes to fruition, it will further enhance the campus' role as a center for education, leadership, and community engagement while contributing to the municipality's vision of fostering excellence in sports and human development. ๐Ÿคท

Following the successful conduct of the Closing Events 2026, West Visayas State University Pototan Campus convened a Post-Evaluation Meeting with a modest luncheon on June 1, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Audio-Visual Center to comprehensively assess the implementation of the campus' culminating academic ceremonies and identify opportunities for future enhancement.

The activity brought together campus key officials and committee chairpersons or their representatives who played vital roles in the planning and ex*****on of the Baccalaureate Mass, Recognition Program, and 80th Commencement Exercises. The gathering served as a venue for reflection, accountability, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement.

The program commenced with a prayer, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the WVSU Hymn, followed by an inspirational message from Campus Administrator Dr. Raymund B. Gemora, who also served as presiding officer. In his remarks, Dr. Gemora expressed his sincere appreciation to all working committees, faculty members, staff, and support personnel whose dedication, teamwork, and commitment contributed to the orderly, meaningful, and successful conduct of the closing events.

He emphasized that while accomplishments deserve recognition, a thorough evaluation of processes, outcomes, and experiences is equally important in maintaining institutional excellence. He noted that every achievement presents an opportunity to learn valuable lessons that can further strengthen future undertakings.

A significant portion of the meeting was devoted to the presentation of Committee Observations and Insights. Each committee chairperson or representative provided a detailed assessment of committee duties and responsibilities, highlighting accomplishments, best practices, operational concerns, and the performance of individual members. The presentations generated constructive discussions and recommendations aimed at improving coordination, streamlining workflows, enhancing resource management, and elevating the overall experience of graduates, parents, guests, and stakeholders.

Participants likewise identified areas requiring improvement and proposed innovative strategies to further enhance the efficiency and quality of future campus events. Among the key factors cited as instrumental to the success of the recently concluded ceremonies were early planning, clearly defined responsibilities, comprehensive checklists, adherence to activity timelines, effective communication, timely decision-making, and strong teamwork among committees.

The meeting also addressed the submission of liquidation requirements to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with financial management procedures. An inventory of materials and supplies utilized during the closing events was likewise undertaken to account for campus resources and facilitate more efficient preparations for future activities.

As per the data presented by Dr. Raquel P. Pedrajas, Post-Evaluation Committee chair, a total of 153 respondents, primarily guests (54.9%) and graduates/students (37.3%), evaluated the 80th Recognition Program. Results showed a high level of satisfaction, with 64.7% rating the event organization as excellent and 24.2% as good. The speakers and presentations were likewise well-received, with 63.4% rating them excellent. Overall satisfaction with the ceremony, logistics, and facilities was very positive, with most respondents reporting they were either satisfied or very satisfied.

For future ceremonies, respondents recommended improving venue ventilation, providing additional seating or a larger venue, engaging professional photographers, and enhancing the visibility of text displayed on the LED wall to further improve the event experience.

Likewise, a total of 372 respondents, composed mainly of graduates/students (96%), evaluated the 80th Commencement Exercises. Results showed very high satisfaction, with 89.5% rating the organization of the event as Excellent, 91.4% giving an Excellent rating to the guest speaker and presentations, 86.8% expressing they were Very Satisfied with the ceremony, and 83.3% being Very Satisfied with the logistics and facilities.

Key recommendations for future ceremonies included improving venue ventilation and cooling, increasing seating capacity, considering an alternative venue or late afty schedule, providing water for attendees, and strengthening crowd control, among others.

More than a simple assessment exercise, the post-evaluation meeting reflected the campus' shared commitment to quality assurance, organizational effectiveness, and responsible stewardship of resources. By transforming experiences into actionable insights and concrete recommendations, the activity reaffirmed West Visayas State University Pototan Campus' continuing pursuit of excellence and its determination to make future closing events even more meaningful, efficient, and memorable for all stakeholders. ๐Ÿคท
