Students of the Palawan State University School of Law attended the West Philippine Sea Awareness Forum held on October 17 at the Palawan State University Amphitheater in Tiniguiban, Puerto Princesa City, featuring the keynote address of 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐨 𝐓. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐢𝐨.

The forum deepened the understanding of the West Philippine Sea through the lens of international law, highlighting the historical and legal foundations of the Philippines’ maritime rights and the continuing importance of defending its National interests.

𝐏𝐒𝐔 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋 𝐎𝐅 𝐋𝐀𝐖 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐈𝐍 𝐌𝐎𝐋𝐁𝐎𝐆 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐔𝐌

On October 14, 2026, First-Year and Third-Year Juris Doctor students of the 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 – 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐚𝐰 participated in the 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐥𝐛𝐨𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, organized by Kalikasan People's Network for the Environment – Timog Katagalugan (Kalikasan TK), held at Western Philippines University, Puerto Princesa City.

The activity brought together members of the Molbog community, other Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Palawan, advocates, and participants to discuss issues related to ancestral domains, Indigenous Peoples' rights, environmental protection, and the challenges facing Indigenous communities.

Through their participation, the law students had the opportunity to hear firsthand the stories, experiences, concerns, and aspirations of the Molbog community and other Indigenous Peoples, particularly regarding their ancestral lands, cultural heritage, livelihoods, and community welfare.

𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐑: The participation of the law students in the aforementioned activity was independently initiated and facilitated through the Law Student Government (LSG) and was not officially organized or endorsed by the Palawan State University – School of Law. This World Mental Health Day, the Palawan State University – School of Law joins the global observance in recognizing the importance of mental health and well-being for everyone in our academic community.

The journey through law school is not easy. Between voluminous readings, demanding examinations, challenging recitations, deadlines, and the pressure to excel, it is easy to become so focused on meeting expectations that we forget to take care of ourselves. Our professors, too, carry responsibilities and challenges that deserve understanding, compassion, and support.

But let this be a reminder to every law student and professor: Your mental health matters. You matter beyond your grades, achievements, professional titles, and responsibilities.

As future lawyers, we are taught to know the law, defend rights, and uphold justice. Let us also remember to know ourselves—to recognize when we are tired, acknowledge when we are struggling, and give ourselves permission to pause, breathe, and seek help when we need it. There is strength in asking for support, courage in admitting that things are difficult, and wisdom in knowing when to rest.

𝐇𝐮𝐰𝐚𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐢.

This World Mental Health Day, remember: You can pursue excellence without sacrificing your well-being. You can take a break without giving up. You can ask for help without being weak. And you can be a work in progress while still being worthy of respect and kindness.

Take care of your mind. Listen to yourself. Give yourself grace. The law can wait for a moment—your well-being matters, too.
