Amid a growing epidemic of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and/or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in the Philippines, the percentage of Filipino youth who are aware of HIV and/or AIDS has declined to its lowest level since 1994. On , December 1, we are reminded that much needs to be done to raise public awareness of s*xually transmitted infections.

These problems may have negative consequences on the performance of students, who have had to deal with the uncertainty of the pandemic and new instruction methods. Incidentally, students in 2021 rated their school performance lower than students in 2013.

Problems with internet access and finding a quiet place to study were the two main difficulties experienced by young remote learners during the pandemic, based on the results of the 2021 Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality Study (YAFS5).

The UP Population Institute, in coordination with the Department of Health, brought together close to a hundred representatives of the academe, government agencies, civil society, local and international development organizations, as well as members of the press for the public dissemination of the results of the 2021 Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality Study, 14 October 2022 at Park Inn by Radisson Hotel in Quezon City. The event was also live-streamed on the pages of UPPI and YAFS5—a first for a UPPI-led public event—to allow greater public engagement, especially from other parts of the country.
