Oblation Statue - "Oble"
One of the more famous symbols of the university is this concrete statue made in the 1930's as commissioned by then UP President Rafael Palma which was talent graced by the artistry of National Artist Guillermo Tolentino. One of the myths surrounding the sculpture was that the model for it was the father of the late Fernando Poe Jr. This story would later be laid to rest as the models have been named to be Anastacio Caedo (student assistant to Tolentino) and his brother-in-law Virgilio Raymundo. Tolentino would use Caedo's physique and Raymundo's body proportion to create the masterpiece.
Currently, one will be able to see, not one, but many other statues of the same in UPLB, UP Mindanao and UP Baguio. However, if one wishes to take a glance of the original make, one has to go to the UP Main Library in Diliman and see the original 3.5m statue.
