Led by our Graduate Studies Program Director, Dr. Delmark A. Aseron, the orientation welcomed our incoming DESS and MSHMS graduate students to the UP College of Human Kinetics. The UP College of Human Kinetics Graduate Studies Program proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Binky Ulanday and Asst. Prof. Bert Madrigal on the publication of their research on collegiate judo athletes.

This publication contributes meaningful insights to the field of Human Movement Science and reinforces the importance of evidence-based approaches to athlete health and injury prevention.

Congratulations on this outstanding scholarly achievement!

CHK DSS proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Binky Ulanday and Asst. Prof. Bert Madrigal on their latest publication! 🌻

Their study on collegiate judo athletes found that most injuries occur during training, with the shoulder and knee being the most commonly affected body regions. Interestingly, athletes with lower body fat percentages were more likely to report a history of injury, while movement quality, as measured by the FMS, was not significantly associated with injury risk. These findings highlight the importance of monitoring body composition and promoting healthy weight management as part of comprehensive injury prevention strategies in judo.
