A Call to the Patikul LGU: Empower Youth Participation in Local Governance

The Patikul Youth Organization (PYO) respectfully calls upon the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Patikul to provide greater opportunities for youth participation in local governance. The youth are a vital resource in our community, filled with energy, fresh ideas, and a deep commitment to shaping a better future for all. However, their voices often go unheard in key decision-making processes that directly impact their lives.

We believe that the inclusion of young people in governance will not only enhance youth development but also foster innovation and strengthen community engagement. By creating spaces for youth to contribute—whether through advisory councils, youth representatives, or participatory programs—the LGU can harness the potential of the next generation of leaders and ensure that the policies being implemented reflect the needs and aspirations of all sectors of society.

We urge the LGU to recognize the value of youth perspectives and to partner with organizations like PYO in establishing sustainable frameworks for youth involvement. Together, we can build a more inclusive, dynamic, and forward-thinking Patikul where the youth are active contributors to local development.

Bensar Muin
Founder, Patikul Youth Organization (PYO)

Bensar Muin is a passionate youth advocate and community leader from Patikul, known for his dedication to empowering young people and fostering positive change in his hometown. As the founder of the Patikul Youth Organization (PYO), Bensar envisioned a platform where the youth could have a voice, express their ideas, and actively participate in shaping their community’s future. His leadership has guided PYO since its inception in 2019, driving efforts to advocate for youth rights, promote education, and enhance community engagement.

Growing up in Patikul, Bensar experienced firsthand the challenges faced by young people in his region, including limited opportunities for growth and involvement. These experiences motivated him to take action, leading to the establishment of PYO, which has since become a crucial force for empowering local youth. Under his leadership, the organization has launched numerous initiatives focused on leadership development, civic engagement, and social awareness.

Bensar’s commitment to youth advocacy is rooted in his belief that young people are the key to building a better future for Patikul. Through PYO, he has helped create a supportive community that nurtures young leaders, providing them with the tools and opportunities to make a lasting impact.

In addition to his work with PYO, Bensar continues to engage with other community initiatives and collaborates with local and regional organizations to expand opportunities for the youth of Patikul.

'Challenges towards peace building between Islam and the Modern World'
There is no doubt that Islam is facing a lot of challenges in this modern and scientific era. The challenges are not from only outside of Islam and Muslim but also from its inside (Watson: 1999). The core challenges have been mentioned by the scholars and thinkers. Muslim world is trying to overcome those challenges. The challenges have been facing by Islam and Muslims in this modern world may include the lack of understanding the true meaning of Islam, the term used by the west such as fundamentalism, terrorist, extremist, etc., religious freedom and the concept of secularism, crises of unity, gender issue, revenges and forgiveness, issue of modern science and religion, issue of development, issue of modern and modernity and so on.
Watson (1999) states that the challenges from outside of Islam and Muslims could be overlooked as it is because of lack of knowledge and understanding but from the inside is the tensions. Most of the Muslim scholars emphasizes on the crises of unity and ummahtic attitude (Khatami: 1997). Allah says in the Qur’an: “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided” (3:103).
However, the consequent discussions are going to highlight only the challenges relating to the modern world.
