Tau Gamma Phi (Triskelions’ Grand Fraternity) and Tau Gamma Sigma (Triskelions’ Grand Sorority) are closely connected but are separate entities for several reasons:
1. Founding Purpose
Tau Gamma Phi was founded in 1968 at the University of the Philippines Diliman as a fraternity.
Tau Gamma Sigma was later founded in 1969 as its sister organization, giving women their own space to embody the Triskelion principles.
2. Autonomy
Though bonded by the same Triskelion ideals (Fortis – Voluntas – Fraternitas/Sororitas), the sorority and fraternity have independent leadership structures, governing rules, and activities.
This autonomy allows each to address the unique needs of their members while still aligning with shared values.
3. Representation & Inclusivity
Tau Gamma Sigma was created to empower women in an era when most fraternities were male-dominated.
Having a separate entity ensured that women Triskelions could fully participate, lead, and develop without being overshadowed by the fraternity.
4. Unity in Diversity
Both are part of the larger Triskelion Grand Council, but they remain distinct to preserve their individual identities.
They work in partnership—often collaborating on projects, community service, and organizational growth—while still respecting each other’s independence.
In short, Tau Gamma Phi and Tau Gamma Sigma are two halves of one brotherhood–sisterhood family. They share the same vision and guiding principles, but remain separate entities to ensure equal representation, leadership opportunities, and empowerment for both men and women within the Triskelion community.
