UPD Department of English and Comparative Literature

The Department of English and Comparative Literature mourns the passing of Marra PL. Lanot (March 17, 1944 - August 16, 2026), a distinguished poet, essayist, journalist, and educator, who served as a Professorial Lecturer at the DECL for many years. A prolific and multilingual writer, she wrote in Filipino, English, and Spanish, producing poetry, essays, and other works that were published both in the Philippines and abroad. She will be fondly remembered for her remarkable body of work and her lasting contributions to Philippine literature. Her words both on and off the page will continue to inspire generations of writers and readers.

We extend our condolences to her husband, Jose “Pete” F. Lacaba, her son, Kris Lacaba, her daughter-in-law, DECL Prof. Kit Kwe, and all her friends and family.

&: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗟 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗼𝗹 𝟯 is now live on the Department of English and Comparative Literature website!

&: The DECL Journal of Student Creative Writing collects the best work of the year written by both undergraduate and graduate students in the Creative Writing courses offered by the DECL.

This two-issue volume contains literary works from AY 2022-2023 to AY 2024-2025.

The DECL has just opened 1 new section of CL 122 and 1 new section of Eng 23:

Students can start waitlisting for these courses by 8:30pm tonight, and DECL majors may also input them in the DECL Priority List Input Form, if needed.
