ARAW NG MANGGAGAWA

The UP Pi Sigma Fraternity stands with all workers in their continuing struggle for just wages, secure livelihoods, and dignity in working conditions. The working masses are the ones who keep the nation running, but yet are the most burdened by exploitation policies that favor profit over people.

Amid the worsening fuel crisis in the Philippines, workers carry this burden again. Surging oil prices have driven up transportation costs and other daily expenses, while wages remain grossly insufficient to meet the needs of ordinary families. Workers, whether drivers or commuters, bear this shared systemic problem. This only sharpens the urgent need for a family living wage estimated at over P1,200 a day, yet the current rate sits only at P695.

The Fraternity echoes the calls of labor groups for substantial wage hikes, the removal of fuel taxes, and an end to all anti-worker policies. The wealth created by labor must serve the people who produce it. This Labor Day, the path forward remains the same: organize, unite, and fight.

On this Day of Valor, the UP Pi Sigma Fraternity honors the courage and sacrifice of the heroes who stood their ground in resistance. Their bravery is a testament to the enduring strength of the Filipino spirit.

As their legacy lives, let us remember that we can carry forward the same valor in the choices we make and the principles we uphold. In these challenging times, their example calls us to stand in defiance as we remain steadfast in our convictions to change an oppressive system.

To this end, we remember their sacrifice by reflecting on our role in shaping the present, guided by the same courage and duty to the nation that defined them.

AN UNFINISHED REVOLUTION

In 1986, the Filipino masses all stood united against a tyrannical regime under the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Millions rose against his despotic rule after years of repression and plunder.

But four decades later, the same issues persist. Corruption through political dynasties and self-serving policies remains entrenched. In the end, the system that enabled abuse of power was never dismantled.

This struggle for true democracy is inseparable from the demand for national sovereignty, since political power remains tethered to foreign interests

More than remembrance, the spirit of People Power demands action. The UP Pi Sigma Fraternity stands in the broader and continuing struggle of the people to uproot a failed system

Ngayong anibersaryo ng EDSA People Power, kaisa ng sambayanan ang Kapatirang UP Pi Sigma sa nagpapatuloy na laban para sa tunay na pananagutan. Ang diwa ng EDSA ay hindi lamang alaala ng nakaraan kundi panawagan sa kasalukuyan laban sa patuloy na korapsyon at pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan.

Malinaw na walang tunay na pagbabago kung hindi mapapanagot ang mga pangunahing responsable kasama ang lahat ng nakinabang sa sistemang nagpapayaman sa iilan habang pinapasan ng mamamayan ang bigat ng krisis.

Ang diwa ng People Power ay diwa ng paglaban, at nananatili itong buhay sa bawat pagtindig laban sa pang-aabuso at katiwalian.

Brod Allysius graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a degree in BS Mathematics before studying at the University of Siegen, a respected public research institution in Germany known for its emphasis on critical research and international collaboration. The university has produced graduates who have contributed meaningfully to academic and policy endeavors across Europe and beyond.

Sa Ika-4 na Anibersaryo ng Muling Pagtindig ng Kapatirang UP Pi Sigma

“Kapatirang hindi minana-ipinaglaban.”

Sa ika-4 na taon ng muling pagtindig ng Kapatirang UP Pi Sigma, ipinagdiriwang natin hindi lamang ang pagkakatatag, kundi ang bawat hakbang, bawat laban, at bawat tagumpay ng ating kapatiran. Tayo ay naririto-mulat, organisado, at patuloy sa paglaban, sabay-sabay sa mga nakaraang henerasyon ng mandirigmang humubog sa ating diwa at naglatag ng landas na patuloy nating tinatahak.

Ang nakaraang taon ay puno ng mahahalagang tagumpay. Pinakamahalaga rito ang ganap na pag-abswelto sa Mayo Uno Six, isang malinaw na panalo laban sa gawa-gawang kaso at panunupil. Ang tagumpay na ito ay hindi lamang panalo ng ilang kapatid, kundi tagumpay ng bawat isa sa atin na patuloy na tumindig at naglaban para sa hustisya.

Sa loob ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, pinanatili nating buhay ang ating tinig sa pamamagitan ng aktibong pakikilahok sa mga konseho ng mag-aaral at sa mga pagkilos laban sa katiwalian, abuso sa kapangyarihan, at paglabag sa karapatang pantao. Sa lansangan man o sa pamantasan, nananatiling matatag at malinaw ang paninindigan ng Kapatiran-hinubog ng mga naunang kapatid at pinatitibay ng bagong henerasyon.

Sa ika-apat na taon ng muling pagtindig, pinagtitibay natin ang isang mahalagang katotohanan: ang Kapatirang UP Pi Sigma ay buhay, nagbubuklod, at patuloy na lumalaban-kasabay ng ating alumni at bagong henerasyon ng kapatid. Ang ating lakas ay nagmumula sa sama-samang pagkilos at sa pagkilala sa ambag ng bawat isa.

Ngayong anibersaryo, panahon na rin upang magsaya, magpasalamat, at ipagdiwang ang kapatiran na patuloy na humuhubog sa atin. Panahon ng pagkilala sa ating nakaraan, sa ating mga nakamit, at sa patuloy na paglalakbay na puno ng paninindigan at tagumpay.

Tayo ay patuloy na titindig.
Tayo ay patuloy na lalaban.
Tayo ay patuloy na nagdiriwang.

Mabuhay ang Kapatirang UP Pi Sigma!
