HUSTISYA PARA KAY ALYSSA ALANO! HUSTISYA PARA SA TOBOSO 19!

Nakikiisa ang University of the Philippines Chemical Engineering Society, Inc. (UP KEM) sa panawagan para sa hustisya sa karumal-dumal na pagpaslang kay Alyssa Alano at sa Toboso 19 na naging biktima ng aerial strafing ng 79th Infantry Battalion ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa Brgy. Salamanca, Toboso, Negros Occidental noong ika-19 ng Abril.

Isang lider-estudyante, aktibista, at tunay na Iskolar ng Bayan, si Alyssa ay pumunta komunidad upang makiisa at maunawaan ang kalagayan ng mga mamamayang matagal nang inaapi. Ngunit siya, kasama ang 654 na residenteng pinaalis, ay ginamitan ng dahas ng estadong dapat sana’y nagtatanggol at naglilingkod sa bayan.

Hindi hiwalay na insidente ang sinapit ni Alyssa. Ito ay malinaw na nagpapakita ng nagpapatuloy na krisis sa kanayunan, kung saan ang ekta-ektaryang lupain ng Negros ay nananatiling kontrolado ng mga pribadong landlord, habang ang mga magsasaka ay patuloy na nakikipaglaban para sa kanilang sariling lupa, para sa sapat na sahod mula sa pagsasaka, at dignidad na nararapat sa kanila. Sa halip na tugunan ang ugat ng problemang ito, militarisasyon ang sagot ng estado, isang sistematikong paggamit ng dahas upang patahimikin ang boses ng mamamayan.

Bilang mga inhinyero at iskolar ng bayan, tayo ay tumitindig para sa masa. Ang agham at inhenyeriya ay hindi hiwalay sa lipunan. Ito ay dapat na nagsisilbi sa sambayanan. Malinaw na ang kaalaman ay hindi lamang para sa pag-unlad ng industriya kundi para rin sa pagsusulong ng katarungan at kapakanan ng nakararami.

Mariing kinokondena ng UP KEM ang patuloy na paglabag sa karapatang pantao, ang red-tagging sa mga aktibista at organisador, at ang paggamit ng dahas laban sa mga sibilyan. Ang pagkitil sa buhay ni Alyssa Alano ay hindi lamang pagkawala ng isang indibidwal, kundi isang pag-atake sa karapatan ng bawat Pilipino na makiisa, magpahayag, at ipaglaban ang nararapat.

Sa panahong patuloy na sinusubok ang ating paninindigan, tumitindig ang UP KEM kasama ang sambayanang Pilipino.

Hindi tayo mananahimik.

When the stereotypes taught differ from what experiences actually bring, what makes womanhood wonderful as it is? The realizations of Zydlyn G. Dino, a woman in STEM and the woman behind the leadership of the Student National Chemical Engineering Conference.
