The UPD Natural Sciences Research Institute (NSRI) congratulates the Biological Research and Services Laboratory (BRSL) and the team behind LAMP on Vibrio (LOV) on the successful registration of the detection kit’s trademark with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).

This milestone marks an important step in translating research and innovation into tangible technologies and bringing scientific discoveries closer to real-world application. From an idea developed in the laboratory to a formally registered trademark, this achievement reflects the dedication, collaboration, and hard work of everyone involved in the project.

NSRI also extends its congratulations to the lead researchers behind this innovation, Dr. Pierangeli G. Vital and Dr. Joy Ann P. Santos, for their contributions to advancing research and technology development within the Institute.

Congratulations to the BRSL and the entire LOV team! May this achievement pave the way for more innovations that transform scientific discoveries into solutions with meaningful real-world impact.

Acad. Maria Corazon A. De Ungria, PhD of the DNA Analysis Laboratory (DAL) at the Natural Sciences Research Institute, University of the Philippines Diliman and the UP Diliman Research Ethics Board, and Prof. Edlyn B. Jimenez, Coordinator of the UP Manila Research Ethics Board, recently published an article in Forensic Science International: Genetics titled, "Ethical Considerations in Establishing Reference Population DNA Databases of Indigenous Peoples in Southeast Asia."

This hands-on training will cover:

• Guided LAMP primer design
• Hands-on LAMP assay setup and amplification
• Agarose gel electrophoresis and result interpretation
• Assay optimization and troubleshooting
• Application of LAMP to your own research targets

Who can participate?
Researchers, faculty members, graduate students, research associates, and laboratory personnel from Region 8 with basic molecular biology and laboratory experience

On September 4-5, 2026, Nj Soliven of the UPD NSRI DNA Analysis Laboratory (DAL) attended the 2026 Future Science Leaders' Forum at the Quest Plus Conference Center in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. The FSLF is an activity of the National Academy of Science and Technology of the Philippines (NAST PHL) that aims to empower and assist young Filipino science leaders to maximize their leadership potential in their respective fields and to provide a venue for a leadership network of peers and potential mentors and advisers.

The UPD NSRI Microbiological Research and Services Laboratory (MRSL) conducted an in-house workshop titled “Introduction to Molecular Docking” on September 8, 2026. Facilitated by Ms. Chelsea Beyonce Cruz of the PsychoLAB team, the session introduced participants to the fundamental principles and practical applications of molecular docking in research.

Dr. Pierangeli G. Vital and Mr. Brian Adrielle C. Cacayan of the UPD NSRI Biological Research and Services Laboratory (BRSL) recently presented at the QAhusayan Fair 2026, hosted by the UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office (QAO).

Centered on the theme “Empowering Excellence through a Culture of Quality,” the weeklong event (September 7–11) recognized units and individuals demonstrating outstanding commitment to quality assurance across campus.
