Ateneo Center for Asian Studies

Ateneo Center for Asian Studies ACAS seeks to contribute to the development of Asian Studies as a discipline in the country's universities.

Current developments in Europe and elsewhere have rendered urgent a comprehensive and deeper understanding of Asia—its economies, histories, cultures, philosophies and political system. At the same time there is growing interdependence among Asian countries as their relationships are constantly in a state of flux. These developments render it imperative for the Philippines to have an understanding

of its neighbors that take into account its national interests and regional and global engagement. The Ateneo Center for Asian Studies hopes to enhance the expertise of the Ateneo faculty in Asian Studies and strengthen the regional presence of Ateneo de Manila University in this field. It also seeks to contribute to the development of Asian Studies as a discipline in the country’s universities. The Center carries out its mandate through a biennial international conference, publications, sponsorship of research projects, hosting of researchers, language training courses and activities that foster interest in Asian Studies such as the organization of the Asian Studies Association of the Philippines (ASIAPHIL).
