HISTORY

The setting up of the UP College of Science Satellite Libraries was initially conceived by then CS Dean Caesar Saloma during the start of the 3-year co terminus-term of cslib head librarian, Mrs. Actual setup of the physical satellite libraries, however, only took place starting April 2011 during the term of current CSLIB head librarian, Mrs. This was also timely since it was during this time when most of the CS Institutes’ have been given new buildings in the National Science Complex, thus spaces were allocated for the physical Satellite Libraries for each Institute. Susannah V. Deasis was assigned as the Librarian-In-Charge of the Satellite Libraries. The first to be set up was the NIP Library (National Institute of Physics) in April 2011. This was followed by the IM Library (Institute of Mathematics) in April 2012, the IC Library (Institute of Chemistry) in June 2012, the NIMBB Library (National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology) in November 2012, the IESM Library (Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology) in August 2013 and finally the IB Library (Institute of Biology) in Spetember 2015.

The UP Diliman College of Science proudly congratulates our Dean, Dr. Cynthia P. Saloma, for being selected as one of the recipients of the 2026 Iloilo City Mayor's Citation.

The Mayor's Citation is the highest recognition awarded by the Iloilo City Government to Ilonggos who have exemplified excellence in their respective fields and dedicated service towards the progress of Iloilo City and its people. 📚✨ ON THIS DAY IN CSLIB HISTORY ✨📚

Today, we look back on an important milestone in the history of the UP College of Science Library (CSLIB)!

On June 24, 1987, the UP College of Science Library was formally established through UP Administrative Order No. 62 following the creation of the College of Science. This marked the beginning of CSLIB's commitment to supporting scientific learning, research, and discovery within the UP community.

We also honor Mrs. Lourdes T. David, who was appointed as CSLIB's first Head Librarian and served with dedication until May 2001.

For nearly four decades, CSLIB has grown alongside generations of students, faculty, researchers, and staff, adapting to changing information needs while continuing to serve the College of Science community.
