Strengthening inter-unit research synergies within the University system, the UP Korea Research Center and the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS) have formalized a spatial agreement!

This partnership and co-location agreement optimizes physical research infrastructure within the UP System, fostering stronger interdisciplinary collaboration and shared academic resources between UP CIDS and UP KRC.

By bridging institutional spaces, this agreement paves the way for deeper research coordination and impactful public service across the university community.

On 23rd July 2026, the UP Korea Research Center (UP KRC) signed a formal spatial agreement with the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS) at UP CIDS Conference Hall, Lower Ground Floor, Ang Bahay ng Alumni, Magsaysay Avenue, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

UP KRC was established by the Board of Regents (BOR) at its 1313th Meeting (11 Dec 2015) as a unit attached to the UP CIDS to serve as a hub for Korea-related academic and research activities. In the said document, it is officially stated that UP KRC will be housed and officespace is provided at UP CIDS premises.

Following the approval of the UP Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) at the 1399th BOR Meeting (24 April 2025), both UP CIDS and UP KRC were reorganized as distinct and independent component units under the OVPRI.

Despite their administrative independence, both Parties acknowledge their shared history and the continued necessity of a coordinated spatial arrangement today. UP CIDS Executive Director Rosalie Hall kindly shared wisdom how two units are interconnected since the establishment of UP KRC in April 2016 and how both units and their staff members work together to achieve common goals. UP KRC Director Kyungmin Bae also added that UP KRC is grateful for everyone's generosity and cooperation for UP KRC, UP KRC visions to contribute further and step forward to grow like UP CIDS.

Today's ceremony was presided by Mr. Joseph Angelo Cruzado (UP CIDS Library and Resources) and witnessed by UP CIDS and UP KRC staff members.

LOOK: Who said good things only come in 'threes'? 🧐⁉
Last Friday, July 17, 2026, we have officially wrapped up the filming of the "Filipinos in Korea · Koreans in the Philippines" Season 2 with our fourth guest, Jean Cho Sarino. 🍀✨

Jean recently finished his BA Political Science degree at UP Department of Political Science. 🌻🎓 While born in Korea, he started living and studying in the Philippines at a young age, mainly for his Korean mother's wishes for him to enjoy a less cut-throat and more empathetic learning environment. Mothers surely know best as Jean grew up grateful for the Philippine education experience. 📚💯

Check out the distinct attitudes Jean learned from his Korean mother and Filipino father, his humorous encounters with his relatives during his visits in Korea, and his future goals of serving the people rooted in his cross-cultural background in his episode this August! 👀🗓

On June 25, 2026, Maria Eugenia "Gene" C. Aban (MA Comparative Literature, UP College of Arts and Letters) participated in Sejong Cultural Society (세종문화회)'s Virtual Sijo Workshop. 🇰🇷🇵🇭

Gene previously presented her paper on sijo at the 11th Philippine Korean Studies Symposium (8-9 May 2026) focusing on Hwang Jini's sijo and its interpretation. We are happy to see PKSS to be a springboard for Filipino Koreanists to explore more opportunities outside! 💐🌻

Read some reflection from Gene:

"I got to listen to experts who are at the forefront of promoting sijo, a type of classical Korean poetry. It was enlightening to learn about their continuous efforts to increase awareness of sijo through active engagement with students, educators, scholars, and enthusiasts. Before this, I had the chance to present an analysis of Hwang Jini's sijo at the 11th PKSS, and attending this workshop helped me gain a more meaningful perspective on sijo, which has enriched my research and deepened my appreciation and understanding of it. I'd like to thank UP KRC for their initiatives to share information about this workshop and other supportive opportunities, and I look forward to more experiences like this. ^^"

LOOK: The UP KRC, together with Assistant Professor Jay-Ar M. Igno and selected UP Arirang members, recently attended the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines. We were also able to see and catch up with Joohyun Kim, one of the guests for this year's "Filipinos in Korea · Koreans in the Philippines," in person this time around.

This Exhibition aims to showcase the Hanbok as an embodiment of Korean cultural heritage and novelty, as it continuously endures the changing times. It runs until September 26, 2026.

KCC Exhibit Opening Ceremony on July 9, 2026 🇰🇷🖼️

The Exhibit reimagines the Hanbok, one of the most celebrated, quintessential elements of the traditional Korean clothing, in contemporary and global artistic flair. 🤩🧵

Eighteen artists of different mediums have come together to bring out the inimitable synergy between the traditional components of the Hanbok and contemporary art techniques. 🖌️💻

The Opening Ceremony was also graced with a special performance from Ms. JUBORA, a Gayageum artist.

We express our deepest thanks to the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines for their warm invitation to the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition.

The Exhibition is on view until September 26, 2026, from Mondays to Saturdays.
