is happy to meet the UP College of Fine Arts team and donate the book collections of Korean fine arts, national treasure, and contemporary arts. 🖼️🪙

The series of valuable books were previously donated by Dr. Jong Wha Lee who was a professor at the Institute of Chemistry, UP Diliman and who also provided valuable service to handle the Korean language classes in the initial stage of class offerings in 1990s.

Supported by the Korea Foundation, the 13th Korea–ASEAN Community of Policy Exchange (KACPE) International Public Policy Symposium took place at Conrad Manila on September 18, 2026. Jointly organized by UNSW’s Korea Research Institute, the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS), and the UP Korea Research Center (UP KRC), the forum brought together policymakers, scholars, and key stakeholders from Korea and ASEAN to collaborate on major regional policy issues.

had a meeting with Dr. Paolo Miguel M. Vicerra, Executive Director of the Center for Research, Innovation, and Extension, Miriam College (formerly Maryknoll).

Dr. Vicerra sat as an executive director in August this year and has been actively working to seek partnerships and widen opportunities for MC students. Currently, Korean language is not offered at MC and we discussed how to explore to offer one for undergraduate students. We also exchanged information on how to tap Korean HEIs for their plans and initiatives for academic programs such as student exchange and faculty collaborations.

In 2025, a two-week special Korean study tour UP KRC designed in 2025, one of the delegates was Sophia Mikaela Segundera who recently graduated from the Department of International Development, Innovation, and Sustainability Studies (IDIS), MC.

had a meeting with FEU Department of International Studies Chairperson Rex Llonora together with faculty members Mark Ysla and Marian Gongora. We discussed about co-convening workshop on Korean Unification and peace in a new world order.

Two institutions will work on designing an online modules as well as on-site program for capacity building of the future generations of leaders and scholars in the Philippines. The event will ensure that conversations about the issues in the Korean Peninsula and other pressing security issues in the broader region will be actively discussed amongst participants.

Currently, Mark Ysla is taking up his PhD program at the International Doctoral Program in Asia-Pacific Studies (IDAS), College of Social Sciences at National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taipei, Taiwan (Sep 2026 - Jun 2030). The scholarship is offered by the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). 加油! 🇹🇼🇵🇭🇰🇷

Fully funded PhD position in Korean Studies at the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen 🇩🇰 🇰🇷

The Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a full-time three-year PhD scholarship, with an expected starting date of 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The PhD project will be part of the research project Sensing Korea: Reframing Korean Studies in the Nordic Countries, funded by the Academy of Korean Studies. Sensing Korea aims to develop sensory and narrative approaches to Korean Studies in order to explore the diversity of Korean experiences beyond essentializing representations.
