The UP Film Institute welcomed Professor Celine Shimizu, Dean of the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television, and Alisa Mallari Tu, COO of an Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in the Bay Area, California, last August 13 for a gathering and exchange with UPFI faculty and administrators.

Representing UPFI were Director Assoc. Prof. Adjani Arumpac, Coordinator for Academics and Research Asst. Prof. Anne Mallari, Coordinator for Theater and Extension Services Asst. Prof. Giancarlo Abrahan, and Professor Rolando Tolentino.

The gathering, joined by the Dean of the College of Media and Communication Assoc. Prof. Diosa Labiste and the Associate Dean for Research, Creative Work, Extension, and Publication of the College of Arts and Letters Associate Professor Roselle Pineda, brought together educators and practitioners for a morning of meaningful exchange, connection, and conversations on film, media, the arts, and opportunities for collaboration.

DANIEL COQUILLA (UPFI Media Equipment Technician III) studied painting at the UP College of Fine Arts, where he received the UP Gawad Chancellor para sa Sining Biswal in 1998. Known for his witty, satirical, and whimsical depictions of urban life, Dansoy is a multi-awarded artist, earning distinctions in the Philip Morris Philippine and ASEAN Art Awards, AAP Competitions, Metrobank and Shell National Painting Competitions, and the Windsor & Newton Worldwide Millennium Painting Competition. He received the CCP Thirteen Artists Award in 2016 and has mounted over 30 solo exhibitions. He is a UP Artist I awardee.

CARINA SAMANIEGO (UPFI College Librarian IV) is a passionate DIY arts and crafts enthusiast. She has honed her creative skills through workshops in watercolor painting and calligraphy, while also learning new techniques through online resources. Her interest in paper quilling began with The Hungry Craftersโ€”a crafting group at Ateneoโ€”and flourished during the COVID-19 pandemic as she explored more intricate quilled and miniature paper creations. Today, she creates paper-quilled works for both personal and commercial projects, finding comfort and inspiration in the craft.
