POVERELLO: Ang Dukha ng Assisi — a moving theatrical journey through the life, faith, and death of St. Francis of Assisi, brought to life through the direction and artistry of the late +Director Jonathan S. Oraño. It is a story of humility, love, sacrifice, and a life wholly devoted to God and the poor.

October 3, 2026 - Poverello: Ang Dukha ng Assisi takes us back to the life of St. Francis of Assisi - a man who chose a simple life, followed the Gospel, loved the poor, and learned to see God in all of creation.

In this theatrical presentation, Br. Louis Libiano, OFM Aspirant portrayed our Holy Seraphic Father Francis, bringing to life the joy, struggles, faith, and deep love that marked the life of the Poverello.

The image depicts the sacred embrace (el sagrado abrazo) between the two great founders, Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Dominic, a timeless symbol of fraternity.

Displayed on the right is the Sermón Panegírico of Fray Norberto del Prado, O.P., then Professor of Facultad de Filosofia at the Colegio de Santo Tomás. Preserved in the Archivo Franciscano Filipino, this rare document contains the sermon he delivered during the solemn celebration of the Feast of our Seraphic Patriarch, Saint Francis of Assisi, on October 4, 1883, at the former Franciscan mother church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles in Intramuros, Manila.

Together, these treasures bear witness to the enduring bonds of friendship and spiritual kinship between the Franciscan and Dominican families in the Philippines.

On the left is Fray Norberto del Prado, O.P., who preached at the Feast of our Seraphic Father, Saint Francis of Assisi, in 1883. He delivered his panegyric sermon at the historic Franciscan church of San Francisco de Manila in Intramuros.

On the right is Fray Jayson Gonzales, O.P., who served as preacher for the feast in 2026. He delivered his homily at the Franciscan church of San Francisco del Monte in Quezon City.

Separated by 143 years, these two Dominican preachers stand as a remarkable testament to the enduring spiritual friendship between the Order of Preachers and the Order of Friars Minor, a tradition that continues to flourish across generations and places, from San Francisco de Manila to San Francisco del Monte.

Today, we joyfully celebrate the Solemnity of Our Seraphic Father, Saint Francis of Assisi, the humble servant of Christ and brother to all creation. Embracing the Gospel with a joyful and undivided heart, Francis followed Christ in poverty, humility, simplicity, and love, becoming a living witness to the peace of the Gospel. May his example inspire us to seek Christ above all things, to serve the poor and the least among us, and to become instruments of peace, fraternity, and love in the world. Pax et Bonum!
